Some last minute tips

Ultramarathon champion Hanny Alston has kindly put together some last minute tips and advice for your big run.

The full article is on our website but here's a quick preview:

  • You cannot get any fitter now. So just relax now and get ready to play wilder on May 4th.
  • Use the last four days before Saturday's race start for optimizing your recovery - this will help you to focus on good nutrition, loosening up your muscles with a bath & massage, hydration and generally just enjoying the reward for all the hard work you have put in.
  • I strongly encourage keeping quite active on the Friday (the day before). Resting completely on this day will make you feel tired and heavy. Instead, aim for 1 or 2 x 15-20min very easy jogs to loosen up the muscles.  Add some 20 second slightly quicker efforts to help put a spring in your step. These jogs will also help combat travel, work or the sense of lethargy from tapering.
Again, check out the full article here for more gold nuggets before your race or grab a copy of Hanny's book online...

Have you got your gear sorted?

We look forward to seeing some proper swag at Cheeky Monkey before the start of the 80KM solo and team events. There's no prizes for the coolest runners with the coolest gear but it helps to be prepared.

If you need some new gear then be sure to check out the Find Your Feet online store (click the image below). The store is run by world champion ultra runner, Hanny Aslton. Hanny has kindly put together a 20% code for all participants at Margs.

Use the code "MargaretRiverAthletes" when you check out. We don't want to see any black toenails after the race!!

PLEASE NOTE: We have a mandatory gear list and a recommended gear list so make sure you have these items covered before the hammer falls on May 4.

Free beer at the finish line?

Our superb finish line hosts—the Cheeky Monkey Brewery—have confirmed they’ll give all finishers (solo and teams) a free beer at the finish line. Is there any greater motivation to race to the finish line!?

Other event freebies include a free bottle of Rad Tonic, an event t-shirt, finisher’s medal and a sample tub of Squirrels Nut Butter for all solo runners.

P.S. Don't forget to forward this email onto a friend who's still sitting on the fence or needs a quick reminder. They could be missing one of the biggest events on the ultra running calendar in 2019!

May the 4th be with you!
