The Bluegrass Situation to Cause a Ruckus at the Winnipeg Folk Fest

First Time L.A. Bluegrass Organization Hosts Stage in Canada

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada – Renowned purveyors of American roots music, culture and lifestyle, The Bluegrass Situation, are bringing their spin on a traditional jamboree to Canada for the first time to host "a festival within a festival" at the 2016 Winnipeg Folk Fest. The Los Angeles-based media company and curator of legendary super jams at festivals across North America will take over Big Blue @ Night on Friday, July 8 for The Bluegrass Situation North. Folk Fest audiences will be treated to rollicking performances by four indelible roots acts: The Foggy Hogtown Boys, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Wild Reeds and three-time Grammy award nominee and founding member of the Punch Brothers, Noam Pikelny. The day will culminate with an exciting Album Hour All Star Jam, where the bands will perform the Eagles’ seminal album Hotel California, but with an Americana twist.

“Everyone is familiar with the Eagles iconic record, whether you love every song or appreciate it as an influential piece of music history. It's also a time to honour a musical great with the recent passing of Glenn Frey," said Winnipeg Folk Festival Artistic Director Chris Frayer. “Partnering with The Bluegrass Situation to bring all these bands together for a festival within Folk Fest, and having them recreate this classic record will be a special treat for bluegrass lovers and will showcase the bluegrass genre to a new generation of music fans.”
The Bluegrass Situation is the brainchild of Amy Reitnouer and actor/banjo-picker Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover) and exists to bridge the gap between long-standing traditions and emerging artists. The organization curates shows around the U.S., hosting stages at celebrated festivals like Bonnaroo and Newport Folk Festival, late night jams at MerleFest, and their own annual festival – the LA Bluegrass Situation – at the famed Greek Theatre. This will be the first time they're hosting a stage north of the border.
"The Bluegrass Situation represents an all encompassing community of different artists, regions, genres and fans, so it only makes sense that our next big stage takes us into international territory,” said Amy Reitnouer, co-founder of The Bluegrass Situation. “Our second largest readership for is in Canada, so we're thrilled to make Winnipeg Folk Fest – one of the longest running and most beloved festivals in the country – our Canadian home this summer."
