The Quiet Site

Hello from the Quiet Site.

It's been a fun few weeks watching the Olympics each evening in the bar.  The atmosphere was great!   The weather certanly seems to be so much better than the forecasters have indicated (The 'Fish Factor'?)  Hope you all  enjoy this 'news' and the rest of the summer.

Have a look at our Facebook page to keep up with all the news, and see lots of great photographs (including our recent nightime ascent of Blencathra to watch the sunrise..)
Please post any good pictures you have taken in and around the lakes.  We are particularly happy to receive pictures of wildlife.  Brian the Buzzard loves having his photograph taken..

Also, please feel free to ask any questions regarding your forthcoming holiday here.  If we dont know the answer we will know someone who will!

The Quiet Site and the weather...
While rainfall records have been smashed this year we are happy to report that the years spent upgrading our pitches to pea gravel bases is really paying off.  Pea gravel pitches can take a bit of getting used to but the 80% of repeat business we get here each year is testament to their predictable, weather independent nature.  Pitches are always firm and clean.  The pea gravel is smooth and round, indeed just like stone peas..!   Groundsheets can be used safe in the knowledge that they are just as likely to deteriate on turf as they are on peagravel.
If you are still unsure please ask at the reception on arrival and we will be very happy to lend you an extra groundsheet to go under your tent.

Mud, who needs it?
AA Inspection report 2012
The Quiet Site, Ullswater, Cumbria
Date of Inspection 31st July 2012

Overall Comments:
I spent a very enjoyable night here, in spite of adverse weather conditions and the roaring log fire in the bar lifted the spirits of the many happy customers observed. The friendly telephone booking by Parel was matched by a warm welcome from Mick and the full explanation of facilities and personal escort to allocated pitch was much appreciated. The site, with 2010 additional tree planting, continues to mature and the hard working grounds team are to be commended for the overall presentation, difficult to achieve in view of constant heavy rainfall. The usual high standards of cleanliness within the amenities block were also observed. I was sorry not to have met Daniel Holder on this occasion, but he can be assured that his efficient and friendly team perform very well during his absence, delivering high levels of customer care.

An AA 4 Pennant rating remains appropriate with a justifiably high AA Quality Score of 87%.

Reminder
Please remember to take extra care when using disposable BBQs and Gas BBQs.  There has been a steady increase in the number of incidents over the years where  BBQs have been taken into tents and caravans etc as a source of extra heat.  A burning gas flame or  smouldering coal produces carbon monoxide (CO), an odourless, colourless, nonirritating gas which is highly poisonous. On no account should BBQs be taken inside any enclosed spaces.  Coal or throw away BBQs should always be removed from awnings and the entrances to tents etc when cooking has finished.
Caravan Storage
Don't forget about The Quiet Site's sister company: www.lakescaravanstore.co.uk.   They will deliver your caravan before your holiday and return it to storage at the end of your stay at no cost.  They are also happy to deliver to other Cumbrian parks at a small charge.

English team shortlisting
After an excellent season together George (who helps out at the Quiet Site) and his faithful pony 'Dougal' have been shortlisted for the English junior riding team.  Fingers and hooves crossed!
