Denmark Festival of Voice

1 - 4 June (WA Day long weekend)

Introducing Elena B Williams & String who will be joining us for the 2018 Denmark Festival of Voice.

Elena B Williams & String

Elena B Williams & String are a Samoan Australian music duo that weaves fine violin lines with lyrical magic.
Elena B Williams is an Australian Samoan singer-songwriter currently living in Byron Bay. She started her music career at a young age, at one of her dad’s poetry readings in The Oxford Street Café, Perth. Poets have long inspired singers and songwriters and Elena is no exception, with poetry finding it’s way into her improvised lyrics.

"An honourable female being with a resonate signature sound that soothes and heals! I am honoured to have met and heard this beautiful woman! " - Toni Childs
Inspired by artists like Nina Simone, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan and Tracey Chapman, Elena began singing and playing guitar at the age of 15, with no intention of making it a career, it was just a fun thing to do. After three months of playing music Elena was hooked. She says; “when you find a place of freedom, how can you ever leave it, that’s music to me, complete freedom”.
Elena’s music is a unique blend of soul, folk, jazz, blues and alternative but really a sound all of her own. With a powerful voice that hits you in the heart and honest lyrics that tell stories of life as it is, of human emotion, her Samoan heritage and a desire to celebrate the beauty of nature, Elena’s songs will take you on a journey and connect you to yourself and the world around you.

"Like deep calling to deep, her song originates from and speaks to something we all intuitively knows exists, yet so often seems beyond our reach." - Josh Cunningham (The Waifs)

Friends of Denmark Festival of Voice - We Need Your Help!

At the end of last year we received a grant from Creative Partnerships Australia called Plus 1. It’s a great honour usually reserved for much larger arts organisations however, there’s a catch!  Plus 1 is a dollar for dollar matched funding grant. What this means is that there’s up to $50,000 available but only if we raise up to $50,000.

We’ve spent the last few months pursuing corporate sponsors, but to date we haven’t had the success we’d hoped for. Time is not on our side as the grant expires at the end of April.

This grant has been awarded to the Denmark Festival of Voice. Success in reaching our Plus 1 target would be transformative and would give our festival budget a much-needed boost. We are proud that both our festivals support our artists and our community.

As friends of Denmark Arts we’re hoping you can help us now by making a small (or large) donation to our fundraising campaign called Impact 33: Creative Denmark. Donations over $2 are fully tax deductible and every dollar donated before the end of April will be matched dollar for dollar by Plus 1.

We aim for the Impact 33: Creative Denmark fundraising initiative to be ongoing. In future years we hope that funds raised will go towards supporting creativity throughout our community.
