Missouri East Walk to Emmaus
December 2022 Newsletter

From the Community Lay Director

Greetings in Peace,
Do you have questions about the Emmaus Ministries and your role as a community member? Well, I am pleased to share that a series of eLearning resources provided by the Upper Room will help each of us to be better Emmaus Community members. These resources are available at no cost and can be completed at your own pace and schedule. The training covers three areas:
  1. The Why – this describes the purpose of the Emmaus Ministries.
  2. Community Training – this training provides information about the Board of Directors, Ecumenical Understanding, Fourth Day, Sponsorship, Team Selection, and the Theology of Emmaus.
  3. Spiritual Director Training - this training prepares Spiritual Directors for service on a Walk and is recommended for all community clergy.
I encourage you to take advantage of this training today at the link below:
It is amazing how quickly Christmas things are displayed on the store shelves during the fall season. Before we can get through Halloween the trees, ornaments and decorations start to show up. Then well before Thanksgiving, Walmart, Target and Costco are in full Christmas shopping swing. This is a time of the year when we can get so busy that we may forget the reason for the season.
Luke 2:11
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
So, this holiday season let’s spend time with Jesus. As a community, let’s celebrate the birth of our King and Savior. I pray you will have a gloriously blessed and happy Christmas!
Christ is Counting on You!

Growth through Study

Advent is about preparation. As we prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of our Lord and Savior, here is a short listing of wonderful Advent devotionals to help guide you on your spiritual journey.

Total Christmas Makeover offers a practical approach to celebrating Christ’s birth. The 31 devotions will guide your family’s attention day-by-day toward God’s grace as you prepare for Christmas.

Fully Human, Fully Devine: An Advent Devotional for the Whole Self focuses on four themes: slow down and hope, simplify for peace, sit with joy, and savor God's love. The reader will learn daily practices such as the breath prayer, mindful movement, lectio divina, visio divina (which uses beautiful, colorful works of art each week), Christian meditation, creative contemplation, and practicing presence.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, A Countdown to Christmas reawakens the wonder, joy, and magic that is Christmas with daily scripture and inspirational readings of stories behind popular Christmas traditions, carols and movies. Enjoy a wealth of fun activities to help make the most of the season, including heartwarming holiday recipes and homemade gift ideas.

With this soon-to-be-cherished holiday devotional, best-selling author Ace Collins will capture your imagination and help to make each day of December more memorable and meaningful to you, and those you love, by shining a light on the real spirit of the season.
