A Message from the Community Lay Director

Greetings in Peace,
As winter comes to an end, we anticipate the spring season as God’s earth goes thru a wonderful transformation. The Spring Equinox officially marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere as days get longer and warmer. We all welcome the warmer temperatures and more daylight that spring brings.
In 2022 the Spring Equinox is Sunday, March 20th, and that is the third and final day of our Men’s Walk #171.  May the light of Jesus shine that day.

1 John 1:7 (NIV)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

This scripture is a true description of our Walk to Emmaus Community as we walk in the light of Christ. As a reminder, sponsorship is the most important role that we have as a member of the Walk to Emmaus Community. Who do you know that would be a candidate to attend one of the spring Walks?
Your Emmaus Board and the teams of Men’s Walk #171 and Women’s Walk #172 have been preparing and praying for these Walks. If you can attend, the anointing services details are as follows:

  • Men’s Walk #171 – March 5 (9:00 AM) – Centenary UMC, Bonne Terre
  • Women’s Walk #172 – March 12 (9:00 AM) – The Bridge Community Church, Farmington

So, as a community, let’s support these Walks through our prayers and let’s do all that we can bring the light of Christ to the participants. Christ is counting on you!

Important Announcement from the Board

The Board voted at its January 2022 meeting that any Pilgrim who has or will register for the Spring Walk on or by FEBRUARY 15 will only pay $125 for the walk, rather than $175. The Registrar (Harry Hodge) must have their deposit of $65 on or by February 15, 2022. We hope this will serve as incentive for more Pilgrims to participate in this awesome spiritual experience.
Please talk with your friends about this opportunity and consider sponsoring a Pilgrim or two for the spring walks. Click THIS LINK for access to sponsorship forms and Pilgrim application forms.

Emmaus community, do you see yourself as a possible member of this group of folks above? This is our Emmaus Board (picture from May 2021). We are in need of at least two additional board members (one clergy; one layperson). Though not required, it is helpful if people who are Board members have served as a Lay Director for a past walk (so that they can serve as Board Advisor for an upcoming walk if needed). Board members may self-nominate or can be nominated by community members. If you nominate a community member, please be sure that you have spoken with them and they are comfortable being nominated for a Board position and that they will be able to attend Board meetings every other month. To nominate, please email the nominee's name and contact information to either Steve Wallace at or Phil Bump at by March 1, 2022. After the Board receives nominations, a ballot will be sent to all community members to vote.

O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy your consolations.                        Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
