Missouri East Walk to Emmaus
August 2021 Newsletter

From the Community Lay Director

Hopefully, your summer is going well, and you and you have enjoyed vacations and time with your families. As I draft this article, my heart is saddened by the fact that your Board made the decision to cancel our Fall Walks. Our pilgrim registrations for the Fall Walks were exceptionally low and based upon guidance from the Upper Room, the Walk to Emmaus experience would not be effective. Additionally, the Delta COVID variant introduces a new threat to the health of groups of people meeting indoors. Although, this decision was difficult the Board is committed to planning for the 2022 Spring Walks at Pinecrest Camp.

The cancellation of our plans for the Fall Walks and previous Walks scheduled in 2020 has brought disappointment to the Board and each of you in our community. God is working out a greater plan that is bigger than you and me and his plan will be better for us in the end.
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." – Jeremiah 29:11

Sometimes, it takes a painful disappointment to teach us a skill or strengthen our faith or to put us in the right place at the right time. Is God leading us to reach out to people we know to share the Walk to Emmaus experience? We do not know His ways or His thoughts. We just have to believe in His promise for good plans.
So, who do you know that is a candidate to attend Walk to Emmaus?

  1. Pray that the people that come to mind would be open to your invitation to attend Walk to Emmaus.
  2. Share how Walk to Emmaus impacted your life.
  3. Invite them to attend a Walk to Emmaus weekend.

Christ is counting on You!

Dear Emmaus Community,
As many of you may already know, the fall 2021 Emmaus Walks #169 and #170 have been cancelled (due to low pilgrim applications for fall).  Though it was a hard decision, it was felt that a good walk needed more pilgrims to share the awesome experience.  We believe this is the best action at this time.  Also, with the uptick of the Delta virus, this decision may be the safest option.
However, our board members have never stopped praying, meeting, and working towards the future.  With that in mind, please turn your hearts to the future and the spring 2022 walks which will happen.  They will be at the Pinecrest Camp.  The men’s walk will be March 17th - 20th.  The women’s walk will be March 31st - April 3rd.
Many will have COVID shots by then but rest assured that we are continuing to address the challenges facing us regarding health safety.
Now we need pilgrims for the spring walk!  If you currently have a pilgrim for the fall walk, please contact him/her to see if they would be interested in moving to the Spring walk.  If so, please advise me of the pilgrim’s status.  Formal letters regarding the details of the spring weekends will be sent later.
If you have any questions, please contact me.  I look forward to once again seeing Emmaus members and new pilgrims!
