Missouri East Walk to Emmaus
October 2021 Newsletter

From the Community Lay Director

This is one of my favorite times of the year as we transition into the fall season, and I look forward to celebrating the holidays with my family. There are many things that are causing unrest and conflict in our lives: the pandemic, political polarization, and a country divided. I know that these current circumstances have caused me stress, conflicted feelings, and frustration. How about you? Consider this question, how do we find happiness in this crazy world? I found some thoughts on happiness in a devotion by Rick Warren, Pastor at Saddleback Church.
If we want to be happy, let’s not fill ourselves with lies. Let’s not fill our minds with garbage. Instead, let’s fill our minds with things that inspire us and make us better. The Bible says, “I will not put anything wicked in front of your eyes (Psalm 101:3).
God’s formula for happiness is not a one-shot formula. As we all know, this is something that we need to follow every day. Worry about nothing, pray about everything, thank God for anything – and, lastly, keep your mind on the right things.
Who’s the main ingredient of God’s formula? It’s Jesus Christ. Without him, the happiness formula will just fail. True happiness is the result of having a right relationship with Jesus.
My question for you is who do you know in your life that could benefit from a Walk to Emmaus weekend next Spring? Walk to Emmaus could be the experience that could help that person to achieve the happiness that Rick Warren is describing. Pray for that person and share with them how Walk to Emmaus has impacted you and your life.
Let’s be in prayer for our world, our country, our leaders, our churches, our Walk to Emmaus teams, and potential pilgrims.

The Ministry Manager database has been developed by The Upper Room to maintain Emmaus Walk and Emmaus Community information.  If anyone is interested in putting their reunion group information in the Ministry Manager database, contact Kim Martin at MoEastEmmausPrayer@yahoo.com with their reunion group name, a contact person, when you meet (day of the week and time), and the location of your meetings.  Other community members will be able to search for reunion groups that are available.  You can email other community members and reunion group members once you have logged in to the Ministry Manager database.

For instructions on how to log on to Ministry Manager, view and update information in your account, and sign up for prayer vigils, watch this 5 minute video.  If you have multiple email accounts or have changed your email since your last walk and do not know which email was used to establish your account in Ministry Manager, please reach out to MoEastEmmausPrayer@yahoo.com and we will ensure you are logging in with the correct account so you can be connected to the Missouri East Community data.
