In the midst of all the chaos and confusion of this world, a group of people with very different narratives, different cultures, different skin tones, and different incomes are

Learning to Love each other..

What if this current world, and all our experiences, was merely a practice field where we had the opportunity to learn how to love in preparation for the world to come?  What if that is the point?... To learn to really love God with everything you are... To learn to really love other people, no matter who they are... to learn how to love yourself, for exactly who God made you to be... and to learn to love this sweet planet our home, and truly care for it.

God is awakening that type of Love in His people living and sharing life here in Grove Park. We are learning to love, and though the journey is hard, the Shalom on the other side is worth it.

This Newsletter will highlight some of the things happening in our ministry and family. Our prayer is that it will encourage you in these times to abide in Jesus, who is Himself our Peace (Ephesians 2:14) and is uniting all things together for the sake of God's glory and our ultimate joy as His people whom He has so dearly loved! Enjoy the update!  We are thankful for you and your continued friendship and support of our growing tribe as we launch this New Church and ministry. We couldn't do this without you.

Here's a new video we made about Shalom with lot's of footage of our community and ministry. Check out our new Website at to learn more about the ministry.

Shalom City Church Update

We are still very much in the gathering stage and focused on discipleship and our weekly Sunday night worship in different homes. God continues to raise up new leaders and expand the reach into people's lives. The team of Kingdom minded people living in our community committed to sharing life intimately with their neighbors while proclaiming the Gospel of grace continues to grow.

  • We are up to 4 House Churches meeting weekly for a meal, fellowship, worship, prayer and preaching. Every month these 4 "ShalomHouses" and other neighbors and partner ministries gather together to Celebrate all God is doing.
  • We launched 6 discipleship groups this fall with over 30 community members going deep into God's Word and gospel living.
  • We continue to serve alongside each other with Restore Life (Community Development non-profit), Paradise Baptist Church (Local Church we have knit ourselves to) and other community partners.

  • Pray for deeper dependence on God to sustain us and less trust in ourselves or our own giftings.
  • Pray for wisdom for our leadership team as we seek to discern next steps and strategy for growth and sustainability.
  • Pray for our children and teens. About 50% our Church are kids and we have the awesome privilege of pouring into these precious lives the love and knowledge of Jesus.
  • Pray for Unity amongst the the very diverse body of believers God is bringing together and for our partnerships with other Churches and ministries in the community. The enemy does everything he can to divide God's people and loves using deception, slander and gossip to do that. Pray against His schemes.
  • Pray for provision as we grow. We are in our last year of support from our sending Church (Perimeter) and took a big step of faith in adding Michael Oteka to our staff team as our full time Executive Pastor.  Please pray for consistent, generous, and mission focused giving both internally and externally so that our ministry might become self sustaining. If you would like to partner in supporting this Church plant, visit here.
Our yearly "Community Day" with Paradise Missionary Baptist Church and other partners. What a glorious time of fellowship and outreach.
Operation End the Boredom was a huge success with over 50 kids from our church and community connecting into our 8 week summer program. Watch this video recap! It was a powerful time where many met Jesus and deep community was formed.

You may be asking, "Who exactly is Restore Life?" and "What do they do?"

Well, we're a group of people, who are passionate about the flourishing and restoration of our Grove Park neighborhood. We live, work, and play here, and these neighbors are our friends.

We believe that real community development happens through community people.

Our vision is to see all sectors of Grove Park flourish through dignified development of its leaders. As we discover leaders with business, non-profit, or ministry ideas, we want to see their ideas become reality as their leadership abilities are developed and resources are dispersed as needed.

We know the facts. And we know that change is quickly coming to our neighborhood. So our bottom line is this: we want our neighbors to benefit from these changes.

By investing in both our current and future leaders and partnering with the amazing organizations across the community, we believe this will happen. Our leaders will be ready to lead. Local organizations will flourish and grow. And the Grove Park neighborhood will be a diverse and beautiful representation of dignified community development.
Support us by coming to our first ever Live, Vegas Style Fight Night Fundraiser on Friday November 10th, 6 pm at the new Monday Night Brewing venue.
If you are not in Atlanta you can still support these efforts. Please pray for more corporate sponsors to purchase tables and support this event. We are 3 weeks out and still short on our sponsors.

Family News
13 years and 7 kids later Kimberly and I are still in love and dating... God has been so faithful to us and we praise him for the gift of each other, especially when times get hard unbearable on our own. On our recent family vacation up to Cape Cod, MA, we (plus baby) got away to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate our anniversary. What a gift. It has been a joy to grow together in love for each other and deeper dependence TOGETHER on God to sustain and flourish us as we raise these precious (extroverted, strong willed, and creative) kids and lead these ministries. Every day is an adventure, but every morning there is new mercy.
Every time we visit Cape Cod (where Kimberly's family is from) we take a family picture in front of the Brewster Store.  Here's our 2017 Brewster Store Pic!
DJ (11), Trinity (10), Katy-Grace (8), Benjamin Zion (7), Malachi (5), Judah (3), Gwennalyn (7 mo), Mommy (35), Daddy (40 next month!)
DJ got 2nd place in a city wide art contest and was honored at City Hall in the counsel chambers. Exciting! Proud of our son.
MYK-O- Black Diamond
Our Executive Pastor Michael Oteka is also a rapper, and he made a music video for his new single "Black Diamond" shot in our community and incorporating kids from our Church and ministry.
