The mission continues in Grove Park

and what a mission it is... How we have come to love this community more and more as we share life with our neighbors, serve those in need, and proclaim the gospel in Word and deed. God's grace continues to show up to us and through us and we are thankful for your prayers and partnership that make this ministry possible. Enjoy this interactive update! Click on the videos and links below to get the most out of your experience, and please do consider giving to our Mercy Fund this Holiday season to bless the poor in ways that restores dignity and sustainability in their lives. Kimberly is blogging away about our journey, so make sure to visit our blog to hear the stories and workings of Shalom in our lives.

For the King and the Kingdom,
The Iverson Clan

We had an awesome time apple picking thanks to the generosity of some friends who have a cabin in Ellijay, GA they let us use for a few days.  It was a great get away as a family and we continue to find refreshment and strength for the road ahead, which isn't proving to be an easy one! Your prayers appreciated for unity as a family and for our children to grow in loving and honoring the LORD by loving and honoring their parents and each other. Pray for us as their parents to have patience and love for them, and point them toward Jesus as their hope above anything else.

RoadKill and Thanksgiving.

We had the joy and provision this thanksgiving to travel to Virginia to be with Kimberly's family as well as Danny's family (siblings and cousins). On Wednesday night at about 10:00 pm on the way home from a UVA Basket-ball Danny was driving his brother's SUV on highway 64 going about 70 and a huge 8-pointer deer ran in front of the car causing a major accident. We are thankful Danny, DJ and his brothers made it out alive with no injuries... Praise God with us for that. We wanted to go back and salvage the deer meat and feed our family for the next year,  but couldn't find a way to transport Bambi back to the house... Oh well, next time I guess.
Ministry Update
God continues to give us many opportunities to grow in grace and give it to others we are meeting here. It has been a joy and privilege but it is also hard. As we enter into people's stories and share in some of the pain and hardship they are experiencing things can get dark and feel hopeless. There is so much need here and without a deep abiding and rest in the Redemptive love of our Father in heaven, we can quickly feel a hopelessness that leads to a sense of powerlessness and depression. Even as I (Danny) am writing this now, I received a phone call from a young man I am pouring into who met a homeless woman who has been sleeping outside the last few days in the cold. He told me how the story of the Good Samaritan had really impacted him and he couldn't just walk by her anymore. He called asking how we could help her... The more we minister the more needs we become aware of, and the more we see why we need to have Christ's Church here in full force ministering the gospel of Grace to the poor in WORD and DEED!  That's why we feel called to plant a Church that is focused on community development here. What an opportunity God has set before us as His people to be the loving and healing arms of Jesus to the least of these, and set them free to do the same for others. Please continue to pray for many more to join us in this effort. So many are stepping in and ministering here, but we need more laborers and resources to be raised up for this harvest. Please join us in praying to that end and give as God might lead to grow our Ministries Mercy Fund.
Jobs for life is one of the biggest initiatives we are launching in the community. It is a gospel-centered job development/discipelship program that has had success in numerous cities and is a great fit for our community where people are desperate for jobs. We are doing this in partnership with Atlanta Westside Presbyterian Church and Paradise Missionary Baptist Church and are excited to see the way God brings us all together to bless our community. Our program launches January 12th, 2016 and we are excited about all the interest from students and volunteers. Please watch this 2 minute video to understand the way this amazing program works. This will be one of the core ministries we are building our church plant on, so please please pray and consider donating to our mercy fund to help make this a success. We are praying for God to provide $12,000 to go toward this vital ministry and all the  follow up services connected to it.
Some of the guys in Danny's discipleship group. It has been a joy to share life with these men and grow together to be more like Jesus.
One of the greatest joys has been our partnership with other local Churches like Paradise Missionary Baptist Church and Holsey Temple CME. They have welcomed us well into the community and our partnership continues to grow. Above is a picture of our thanksgiving outreach we just did together at Paradise where we served nearly 200 folks, had great entertainment from a Christian Rapper named Swift, an actor named Curt Cloninger, and a little bit of preaching too... Over 20 volunteers from our fellowship and another 20 or so from Paradise worked hard to make this a very successful event that blessed many of our neighbors. We are excited to see what God will continue to do with this partnership. Please pray for great unity amongst all the Churches and ministries here in Grove Park and for God to draw us together for the sake of Kingdom Shalom in our community.
#GIVINGTUESDAY (December 1, 2015)  is a chance to celebrate generosity. Dear friends who have been blessed and want to be a blessing to the poor and marginalized – your generosity toward our neighbors here in Grove Park is prayerfully requested! Please consider giving into our Mercy Fund to help us meet some of the greatest needs being faced this holiday season. The way we have chosen to do Mercy ministry is very focused on relationship building and long term development and sustainability of those receiving the aid instead of handouts with Jesus stamped on them.  Your investment into the lives of the widows, single moms and dads, kids and teens, and the many others we share life with who are seeking to break free of the systemic and generational poverty they face, is a Kingdom investment that will keep on giving. Most of those we are working with are our brothers and sisters in Christ, and investing in their lives being restored, and empowering them to flourish the way God designed them to, is worth it.  Please pray for provision for the many needs we as God's family here in Grove Park are facing, and give as the Spirit leads.
(All donations are processed through Perimeter, our sending Church, and are tax deductible)
Our Sunday night ShalomHouse gatherings continue to be a blessing in our lives and we are so thankful for the many folks in our community we are getting to share life with and get to know. The adults gather at 6 pm on Sunday nights and eat dinner (Potluck style) while the kids hang out in our den. At 7 pm or so we switch and the kids come up and eat and are taught the Word by Kimberly, while adults have a time of prayer, worship and Bible study. It has been some rich fellowship and we are thankful (and the food folks are making is pretty amazing...)
Our community is filled with many different needs, and your gift is multiplied into the lives of amazing image bearers of God who are discovering and displaying His Kingdom more fully.
Please consider joining our prayer team. . We will do our best to keep you updated on what is happening in our community and how to pray.
Stay in touch by following our blog:
We will be posting stories about what God is up to in our lives as a family, ministry updates, theological reflections, sermons, and other resources for Shalom.
