Best Recipe
Did you know today is the shortest day of the year, and tonight is the longest night? If a Wintery gathering is on your agenda, relax and focus on three simple things: friends, food, music. In that order. That's our best recipe for success with any party, regardless of axial tilt. People first, palate second, playlist third. So! If you've got the guest list, then may we recommend a fresh selection of fruits & veggies from Terra Firma, Say Hay or Good Hummus Farms? Chop and arrange 'em around a few nuts & cheeses (Miyoko's if you're vegan). Easy, breezy, and a great way to start a conversation about why it's good to #ownyourfood.
Shine On, You Crazy Co-op
12/25 is the only day we close all year. Here are our Holiday Hours:
·  Christmas Eve, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
·  Christmas Day, store closed
·  New Year’s Eve, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
·  New Year’s Day, 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Don't Miss This Chance To Dine With Davis
We don't usually mess with the formula for the Holiday Meal, which is equal parts love, volunteer help, generosity of Davis donors, and good food for everyone. But this year, we're welcoming a special new partner—the University Retirement Community. They've taken over for UCD as our provider of big ticket items: the pots and pans we use to cook a delicious, traditional meal for 600+ at the Veteran's Memorial Center. They took one look at our giant list of requirements (24 hotel pans, sterno, electric food warmer boxes the size of an armoire), and asked "What else?" That kind of service spirit is hard to come by... but right in time with the warmth of the Holiday Meal. Please join us for our 32nd annual free dinner for the entire community. The menu is vegan, plus ham and chicken, and gluten-free friendly. All are welcome, 4:30—6:30pm at the Vets at 14th & B Streets on Christmas Eve.

Another fresh crop of Royal Miyagis and Kumamoto Oysters arrive Friday! Perhaps you need a dozen for Christmas Eve... or just because. Oysters are a powerful immune system booster. They're loaded with Vitamin B12, Iron, and Zinc. In short, oysters are shucking awesome! Don't miss these fresh, seasonal delicacies. Buy 18 or more during this special event (December 22—24), save an extra 10% on top of our sale price.
More Than Just A Gift
Teach someone to pour a beer, s/he'll enjoy a pint; teach them to brew, and you'll be toasting for years to come. We're kicking off the New Year in our Teaching Kitchen with a dizzying array of new classes, designed to get you up and running as a home chef (or home brewer). Consider our new Kitchen Basics series—a hyper-affordable set of tutorials to spark healthy cooking in your home. Or perhaps you'll want to reserve a spot in our hands-on Potstickers class, part of a new set of Global Immersion workshops we're developing. This first foray features a delicious academic partnership with UCD's Confucious Institute. To your health! 萬壽無疆 (wàn shòu wú jiāng)!
Director Dana Marsh waxes poetic about the nature of food, and the depth of our connection. Don't miss our January Board Meeting! We'll be meeting at 8:00pm in the Teaching Kitchen. Owners are always welcome, and their thoughts appreciated!
