Free Wine Tasting On Our Patio—Friday!
Raise a glass to Co-operative Principles! Berryessa Gap Vineyard will take over our Patio on Friday, February 24, to pour tastes of delicious wines and hob-nob with our current Board of Directors. We're looking for a few good candidates to run on the 2017 Spring Election slate, and this is a wonderful way to learn about the fabulous life a Director leads. 5-7pm. Free!
You Asked, We Answered!
A fresh Suggestion Box full of ideas awaits your perusal, and gosh do we have some new items for you! Our Golden Milk, a restorative blend of almond milk, tumeric and black pepper, is now available in a reusable Mason jar in our "grab & go" section, flanked by house-made Cold Brew Coffee and gingery Chai. Got an idea, or a favorite product you'd like us to bring in? Our Suggestion Box is always open. We appreciate your feedback, and hope you enjoy the positive changes you see!
Irish Eyes Are Smiling!
'Tis almost the season for the wearing of the green... and the corning of the beef. Mark St. Patrick's Day in style this year by learning to make your own corned beef from scratch, March 3. Take one of our Global Flavors classes (people 21 and older are offered a complimentary glass of wine or beer with their experience), or sign your small chef up for our Spring Break classes: Kids Cook Master Series on March 28, 29 and 30.
Celebrating 45 Years Of Community & Organic Choices
Did you know we offer a 5% Community Discount to eligible Owners? A simple form is available at any register, or on our Membership page online. Designed to help people experiencing financial hardship, this discount is one of the benefits of Ownership. The satisfaction of owning an independent, cooperative business and supporting your local economy, profit-sharing, the ability to fill out a Suggestion Box comment form any time you want a new product in the store, and those fabulous Owners Extras and coupons... those are just the icing on the co-operative cake! Do you know someone who has been thinking about joining, but hasn't yet become an Owner? We hope you'll put in a good word, and encourage them to invest in Davis.
Our Village
Thanks to our generous Owners, we sent over $3400.00 to the Short Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC) in February 2017. This money came from generous Holiday Meal donors, and our successful Round Up At The Register campaign in December. We are honored to be a part of a community that cares for each other so deeply. Next month, the Co-op sponsors Contra For A Cause, a live music and barn dance event at the DCC Fellowship Hall. Funds raised will help local refugee resettlement efforts through Opening Doors Inc. If you've been wanting to kick up your heels, March 4 is the date!
Run For The Board
The Co-op staff and the Board of Directors are grateful for the high voter turnout at last fall's Special Election. As a result, we'll include an online voting option in our Spring Election! Want to consider running for the Board of Directors in the spring, so you can help craft future awesome decisions like that one? There will be six open seats on the Board, and serving your co-op is an excellent way to engage with your community. For more information, election dates, and to find out how you could become a Director, please visit davisfood.coop/elections... or come enjoy a glass of wine at our free patio takeover on Friday, February 24 (5—7pm). Meanwhile, save these dates:
April 3 • final deadline to declare your candidacy for the Board of Directors
May 1 • mailing of election materials
May 7 • Annual Meeting! 5:30, University Retirement Center
May 31 • last day to vote
Cut That Cheese
Have you ever wondered how a few slight Co-op employees manage to chop gigantic rounds of cheese down to picnic size every week? Our Cheese department recently gave the public a rare glimpse behind the scenes. Watch this short video of Bailey and Mayra as they "crack" an 80-pound wheel of pure, Swiss gruyere—made in the Alps by another co-operative, no less! Listen in as Vince learns all about this "Bentley of cheeses" from our fascinating producer. Then tell us how you plan to enjoy your next mouthful. Melted on a bed of sautéed spring asparagus? Folded into fondu? We're pretty sure you've got some gouda ideas.
