Growing Bolder

After Desi Linden won this week's Boston Marathon, becoming the first American woman to win the 26.2-mile race since 1985, she tweeted this message:
"6th time's a charm. Keep showing up!"
Show Up Strong, which happens to be our own Medical Director Dr. Robert Masson's mantra, too, is exactly what all of the 30,000 men and women did on Monday and what so many people do across the world every day -- and their stories are just as worthy of the spotlight.
Ben Beach, for example, continued his streak of running Boston Marathons. 2018 marked his 51st in a row (and you can read more about his story and listen to his inspirational journey in an interview with Growing Bolder Radio here).
Katherine Beiers also ran into the history books as she crossed the finish line of her 14th Boston Marathon, becoming, at age 85, the oldest female ever to finish. She was also the oldest of all 29,978 runners. We spoke with Katherine on Growing Bolder Radio about running, adventures and of course, her Boston Marathon experiences over the years.
Before her death in 2017 at age 94, Harriette Thompson held the title of oldest woman to finish any marathon, and the three-time cancer survivor accomplished that shortly after losing her husband of 67 years and battling a staph infection in her legs. Harriette told Growing Bolder that she started running marathons at 76 and wanted to share a message with people of all ages.
You don’t have to be naturally athletic to be Growing Bolder -- right now, people are living more active lives at ALL ages. The marathon provides some examples, but even if running is not your thing, in these stories, we hope you’ll find the inspiration to live with health, purpose and adventure!
