Growing Bolder

In a pool filled with former high school, college and even Olympic athletes, an unlikely relay team stood out at the Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic.

With a combined age of more than 360, John Corse, Ed Graves, Betty Lorenzi and Joan Campbell had the chance to smash two things: a world record and expectations for what 80- and 90-year-olds can do.

And with every stroke, this relay team inspired people a quarter of their age and younger to start Growing Bolder.

Speaking of records broken, we're saying a sad goodbye to running legend Ed Whitlock, who has died of prostate cancer at the age of 86. In 2003, at the age of 72, Whitlock ran 2:59:10 to become the first man over 70 to clock a sub-three hour marathon.
Whitlock set world marathon records for ages 75-plus, 80-plus and, most recently, 85-plus with a time of 3:56.38 last October in Toronto. In total he set roughly 25 world masters records over distances from 1,500 meters to the marathon. Whitlock was a frequent guest on Growing Bolder radio and we recorded one of the last interviews ever with him just few months ago
If you need proof that love can lead the way, watch the inspiring story of Susan Toney. The recording artist has had to overcome incredible odds but she’s never lost faith in herself or stopped believing in miracles.
