"I HAVE TO PINCH MYSELF SOMETIMES"

ROWDY GAINES' EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
WITH GROWING BOLDER

“I’m more comfortable being in the water than on the land,” Rowdy Gaines tells Growing Bolder in an exclusive sit-down interview, shortly after the world premiere of the new film ROWDY.
“People ask me all the time, ‘if you could pick one reason why you won a gold medal in the Olympics, what would be that one main reason?’ and I always tell them…really, it’s because I love swimming. I love to swim. I’ve always loved to swim.”
That passion is at the heart of ROWDY, which is produced by television veteran Hannah Storm and her company Brainstormin’ Productions. (Storm’s husband Dan Hicks is Rowdy’s broadcast partner — they’re the longest-running broadcast team in U.S. Olympic history!)

Growing Bolder joined Rowdy to talk about the film, which premieres on Monday, July 16th at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network, as part of ESPN Films’ SEC Storied series.

We're also sending best wishes to all who knew and loved philanthropist (and Growing Bolder Magazine cover model) Harriett Lake, who died this week at the age of 96.

In 2013, Harriett took Growing Bolder on a rare tour of her closet -- one that contained nearly 2,000 hats, thousands of outfits, purses and more.

And she talked with us about her commitment to Move Forward. Give Back.® in life and after her death.
Starting in 2004, Harriett started steadily giving away her entire fortune, distrubting millions of dollars each year to dozens of charities. Shortly before her death, she reached out to Growing Bolder CEO Marc Middleton, who shares this tribute:

"She was one-of-a-kind. Fun, funny and brilliant. She had a huge heart and, at times, a foul mouth. We rarely talked but she called out of the blue about a month ago to say hello and make a story suggestion. I asked her how she was. 'I'm ready to go,' she answered. 'I love you.' I said without thinking. 'I love you too,' she replied.

I am so happy she called. [This week,] I learned that Harriett Lake has passed away at 96 but not without touching the lives of nearly everyone in Central Florida. Her legacy is everywhere. Her goal was to give her entire fortune away before she died. Mission accomplished. RIP, Harriett."
