Are you drinking the right milk?

I recently moved into a lovely apartment on a lake. The sun rises over the lake and bathe my living room with soft light.  In the morning ducks can be seen cruising down the lake. Sitting watching the lake as I write is so relaxing. It reminds me of being on the islands off Trinidad. It's the perfect space for writing and working. Many thanks to my friend for supplying such a beautiful environment.

Are you drinking the right milk?
The reason why so many people are lactose intolerant could be due to the quality of the milk they are drinking.
I'm not speaking about organic versus non organic milk but about A1 and A2 milk.   I learnt about this on a recent visit to an organic dairy farm in Iowa.  Apparently there is growing evidence that shows the reason so many people are lactose intolerant is because of  A1 beta-casein, a protein found in milk. A2 Beta- casein is the protein cows produced before they were domesticated. It is considered safe and has no known negative effect of human health. Cows produce both A1 and A2 beta-casein. Depending on the breed certain cows will produce more A1 than A2 milk.
When digested,  A1 beta-casein (but not the A2 variety) releases beta-casomorphin7 (BCM7), an opioid with a structure similar to that of morphine.  One peer-reviewed study conducted at the National Dairy Research Institute in India, published in October in the European Journal of Nutrition, found that mice fed A1 beta-casein overproduced enzymes and immune regulators that other studies have linked to heart disease and autoimmune conditions such as eczema and asthma.
Researchers are  suggesting  that milk with A1 beta-casein is responsible for leaky gut syndrome, and inflammatory diseases that manifest as swelling and pain. BCM7 has been linked to heart disease, type 1 diabetes, and other serious non- communicable diseases.
The milk produced in America and Europe is mainly A1 from the high milk producing Holstein cows.  This could account for the high percentage of people, 1 in 4 in America, who are lactose intolerant.
A1 protein is less prevalent in milk from Jersey and Guernsey cows.  Also African and Asian cows tend to produce A2 milk.
The discussion on A1 and A2 milk started in New Zealand  by Keith Woodford, a professor of farm management and agribusiness at New Zealand's Lincoln University who wrote the 2007 book Devil in the Milk: Illness, Health, and the Politics of A1 and A2 Milk.  The debate has taken time to reach the USA and Europe but as more scientific evidence is being reported, health conscious people are becoming aware and spreading the word.  Don’t be surprised if you soon see milk on your grocery shelf labeled “A2”.
For milk lovers out there I suggest that you start investigating, especially if you have children as it is now being suggested that A1 formula milk can be dangerous for your child’s health and growth.

What's your "back story"?

Do you have a story that you repeatedly tell as the reason why your life  is the way it is? It could be some childhood incident or something  that happened to you as a teenager. Perhaps you were molested as a  child or was made to feel inadequate or  guilty.

The stories we repeatedly tell our self  and to others as to why our life is as it is, tend to keep us from making positive changes and moving ahead with our life.

As a Strategic Intervention coach, I often meet people who are stuck in their life because of  some past event. I call this their "back story".

Past events, especially when they are traumatic, leave a deep impression and force us to create patterns of behavior for our protection. However, life is a constant field of change, therefore from time to time, we need to examine the beliefs and rules we have created  to see if they are still serving us or if we need to change them in order to grow.

Back stories are not always negative. Some people have created very empowering stories that have served to create a successful life from them and their community. But if you do have a negative back story the following tips will be helpful.
Take a moment to look at the stories you habitually tell others about your life. Try to remember when you first started telling that story and the purpose it served at that time.
Now ask yourself this question: " What impact has this story had on my life? Is it still serving me in a positive manner or is it retarding my growth."
If the story is holding back your progress, I suggest that you create a new and better story that will empower you to grow. Acknowledge that your story may have served a useful purpose in the past but has no relevance in your present situation. This could make a huge difference in your life.  Give me a call if you still feel stuck. I'll be happy to speak with you.

Enjoy!
