What's Holding You Back?

Summer is here and students are heading home for the holidays.  During summer in the Mid West there are lots of festivals. Music bands fill the town squares entertaining young and old.
I went kayaking down the  Iowa river recently with a group of friends, enjoying the sunshine and flora.  It was a great fun day.
How will you spend your summer?

What's dragging you down?
We tend to get dragged down and overwhelmed by things that accumulate over time - and end up cluttering our minds. Now is the time to identify what you're tolerating! You may not want to do anything about  them right now, but just writing them out  will raise your awareness and you’ll naturally start handling, fixing and resolving them.
So, make a list of what you’re putting up with at work - and at home - to determine what might be cluttering your mind and slowing you down!
Some examples could be: Incomplete tasks, frustrations, problems, other people’s or your own behavior, clutter, shoulds, unmet needs, crossed boundaries, overdue library books/DVDs, outdated wardrobe, unresolved issues or guilt, lack of exercise, eating habits, being indecisive, procrastinating, lack of sleep etc…
Research has found that a negative outlook can contribute to everything from depression to heart disease to lowered immune system function. It can affect sleep, weight maintenance, the quality of your relationships, your social life, and even your ability to hold a job.
Now imagine what it would feel like to approach life from a place of positivity, fun, connection, health, and possibility. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

6 Simple Tips to Make a Positive Switch

To help wipe out negativity, try one or more of the following action steps:

1 Go complaint-free. Try going an hour without complaining and see the positive things in your life. Next, try a day, a week, and so on.

2 Keep a gratitude journal. Each evening, list 10 or more things that you are grateful for.

3 Give compliments freely. Notice the good in others. Praise every person you interact with.

4 Find beauty everywhere in your world. Notice its gorgeousness.

5 Share your good news. Studies show that sharing happy events brings even more happiness.

6 Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.

Maintaining a positive outlook takes practice, and the more you do it, the easier it gets. The payoff—a happier, healthier life—is absolutely worth the effort.
