With Spring just about here we are busy sowing seeds and taking cuttings, growing herbs for the new season; as Jekka says "herbs can live without us, but we cannot live without them". To say it is an unusual year would be an understatement and our thoughts are with everyone who is affected. Sadly, we have had to cancelled our first Open Day of the year. Please see our online statement to keep up to date.
Jekka's thought this Easter is to remember that we are blessed with a number of wonderful UK Native Herbs, which can be seen or foraged on your doorstep. Two of our favourites are Cowslips (not to be picked) and Wild Garlic, shown below, but there are many more, which you can read about in Jekka's Guide to UK Native Herbs.
For Easter look out for Cowslip (Primula veris) also known as St Peter’s keys or Keys of Heaven. These names are associated with the legend that St Peter let his keys to Heaven drop to earth when he learned that a duplicate set had been made. Where they fell the cowslip grew.
One of our favourites, Wild Garlic (Allium ursinum), is also reappearing from winter. The leaves are great in salads, soups, as a vegetable or used to make a pesto. It can be simply wilted in butter and served with mash potato or added to soups or stews for flavouring.
Thank you to everyone who has ordered seeds from us recently. It is very exciting at this time to think of so many households starting little herb patches on their balconies, window sills or in their gardens.
Herbs provide a lot of joy and there is nothing more inspiring that seeing a seed you have sown unfurl and grow into a useful herb.

Given the ever evolving situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) we are delaying the release of our tickets for Jekka's HerbFest. We are excited about our first Jekka's HerbFest, and hope that it will still run from the 3rd to 5th July. Please follow our instagram @jekkasherbfarm or check our online statement for annoucements.
