Jekka's Wonderful World of Mint

In Jekka's Herbetum  we grow over 40 different mints. Mints are a very useful herb as they can be used in sweet and savoury dishes, combining well with both Strawberries and Tomatoes. Mints can look amazing in a border and love being grown in pots. For the best results, cut back to 4cm above the ground after flowering to promote new growth, which you can then use until early winter.

The four main mint groups are Mentha spicata - Spearmint, Mentha x piperita - Peppermint,  Mentha suaveolens - Apple Mint and Mentha longifolia - Buddleia Mint.  To find out more about the different groups and how to use them to make  mint sauces,  tisanes or jams please visit our blog "all about mint".

Mint Fiesta

Jekka has blended the prefect mint tisane based on 30 years of knowledge. The infusion has peppermint and spearmint combined with fennel and hyssop to make a sweet and aromatic tisane.

For the perfect brew, Jekka recommends using boiled, not boiling, water and steeping one bag per cup for three to five minutes. You can sweeten with honey or sugar to taste.

6 O'Clock Jekka's Edition Gin

Jekka's gin contains Swiss Mint that was freshly picked from the Herb Farm and distilled on the same day. It is an interesting Peppermint, which has a very clean flavour, ideal for gin, and is the actual mint they use in the Swiss mints you get at the ski resorts. Our limited edition gin will be available at our Open Days on the 5th and 6th April.
