A Note from the Director

Wow!!! It’s February already! We have 4 months to go in this school year and we are already gearing up for next year. We had a busy month in January with a lot going on in the classrooms. Doughnuts for Dads was a huge success! The children always enjoy bringing their dad to school.

This month also brings us that time of year when we have to think way ahead and register for the 2017-2018 school year. You will receive registration packets this week. Please fill them out completely and return them to the Preschool Office by February 14th. Take time to talk with your child’s teacher, observe other classrooms, or talk to me about what is best for your child for next year. Rest assured that you have a space with us! Also, invite your friends and neighbors to come and look at our program any morning at 10:00am. We look forward to meeting new faces each year.

The Parent Council is gearing up for this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week later this month.

Have a great February!
Spring is just around the corner!

Communication with our parents is very important to us here at Preschool. At this point in the year, we are hoping to meet with each of you to share a little bit about what we see in your child. It's a joy to share their accomplishments with you. Please save the date...Friday, February 10th! There will be sign-ups for you to meet with your child's teacher during preschool hours this day. For those of you who attend school on Friday, it will still be open! There will be child care for the duration of your conference for those not in school. We look forward to meeting with you soon!
Registration for 2017-2018 is just around the corner! We have started tours for prospective families on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment. If you know someone who is looking for a preschool, please send them our way. Your enrollment packet will come to you through your child’s teacher this week. If you have questions about classes or would like to visit any classrooms, please let me know.
Amazing Athletes is on hiatus for the months of January and February. You will be invited to register for the spring semester in February. Forms will be coming home with all 3 and 4-year-olds this month. If you have questions, see Melissa in the preschool office.
Preschool will be closed on Monday, February 20 in observance of President's Day. Please plan accordingly.
We have been very fortunate in January with warm temperatures, but we never know what winter in Charlotte is going to be like. Just a reminder about inclement weather, please watch your television or listen to the radio. If Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed, then the preschool will be closed. If they are delayed (which is rare), then the preschool will open at the usual time. I will also send an email and a notice through Please note that we do not make up any snow days unless we are closed more than a full week of preschool.
As we look for ways to develop a servant's heart in our young children, food on the table is a place to start. Most of our children have more than enough and it's a good conversation to start about those less fortunate. It's an opportunity to talk about showing God's love to others in a tangible way that children understand.

Take a moment to consider all of the food that is consumed in the month of January at football games and parties throughout the playoffs. Now think about the hundreds of people that will go without a hot meal every day this month. There is a way that you can help!!

Each year, we participate in the Souperbowl of Caring which is a food drive for a local food pantry. This year we will be replenishing our own food pantry here at Good Shepherd that serves the people of our neighborhood and close-by community. Will you help us restock basic staple items that can be stored easily? We will collect non-perishable food items January 30-February 3.
Word of mouth is our best advertisement, but in a world of social media that is sometimes a challenge. Would you consider visiting our Facebook page ( and sharing a recommendation for our preschool? Thank you!
It’s time to start thinking about next summer. Mark your calendars now and save the dates for the following camp weeks here at Good Shepherd. July Weeks: 11-13, 18-20
