A Note from the Director

March is here and the countdown to the end of school is on. I can hardly believe that we are fast approaching the end of another school year.

March is a wonderful and full month in the preschool. There will be a visits from many of our favorite people...science with Kathy Shonts, drama with Ms. Marie, music with Ms. Donna, the dental hygienist, World in My Backyard; plus all the regular classroom activities.

On top of all of that, we are celebrating reading and writing this month with our Literacy Month activities. Check out the details later in this newsletter. One of our goals this week is to see how many parents, grandparents, older siblings, etc. we can have visit our classrooms to read their favorite story to the children. Can you help? Look for a sign-up outside your child's classroom. Reading is a key to success throughout life and we hope this focus on reading will remind our children that it is important and a fun pastime. Let's start reading!!

Summer Camp registration forms will be heading your way this week. Sign-up by March 17th so that we can ensure that each session will meet minimum enrollment. If you have questions, let me know.

Enjoy the coming of spring!!

I'm excited to tell you that we are going to try out a new partnership with the Carriage Club residents this month. Carriage Club is an assisted living facility on Olde Providence Road. Their program coordinator reached out to me about trying to develop an inter-generational program between our children and their elderly residents. These type programs are beneficial for the elderly and the children in so many ways. Check out some of these articles to learn about the benefits.

The Benefits of Intergenerational Programs

The Legacy Project

We are going to start simple with a visit from a few of their residents to read, do art, dance and sing with our 4's class. They will visit us on Wednesday, March 22nd. If all goes well, we hope to continue our connection with them and meet on a monthly basis with our children. If you have questions, please let me know.
Our major push for registration has ended, but we still have space our fall classes. Do you know someone that may be interested in our preschool? Please tell them about your experience and invite them for a visit. We would love to have the opportunity to share our program with them and welcome them to our preschool family.
This year we have decided to make March Literacy Month!! Our  purpose is to focus on the reading and writing around us. One of our goals over the month is to have parents, grandparents, older siblings, aunts, uncles, etc. come and read with us. Sign-up to read to your child's class with your teacher. How many people can we get...10, 20, 30, 50? There will be many other fun activities that are a part of your child's days this month.
This month we will have a visit from a dental hygienist from Laxer, Long, and Savage, DDS to talk to the children about good dental hygiene. All children ages 2-4 will have a special time with the hygienist to learn about brushing their teeth and choosing the right foods to eat. This is a wonderful program from our community that the children enjoy. Your child will be given a new toothbrush and toothpaste the day that they have the dental hygiene program. I encourage you to continue the conversation at home about taking care of their teeth. It is never too early to start!!
Please help us take care of our playground! We love that you spend your afternoons and evenings enjoying our playground. We have noticed some intentional wear and tear of our new track. Please help us by watching and not allowing the children to pick at the track surfacing. It is extremely expensive to repair. Thank you!
Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for the amazing teacher appreciation week that you blessed us with! We each were overwhelmed with the generosity that you showered on us, from the fun decorations to the scrumptious meals and tons of sweet treats, coffee K cups, and generous gift cards! The whole week was just filled with such a demonstration of love and an affirmation for what we do here at school.

We know something like this takes much effort and please know that we were totally blown away by each little detail that you all designed and implemented. Thank you for taking your time to plan, prepare, purchase and put it all together to make a completely delightful week!

It is a privilege to work here at Good Shepherd and to have an opportunity to impact your children’s lives. In addition, it is our joy to get to know their families and in this case be blessed by them! Thank you so much for making it an incredible week for us!

Blessings,
the Teachers
