A Note from the Director

I can hardly believe that it is already February. But when I step outside I am quickly reminded that it is winter. Brrrrrr! It's really cold! We do still like to play outside when it is safe to do so in the winter; so please be sure to send coats, hats, and gloves/mittens to school daily.

We have 4 months to go in this school year and we are already gearing up for next year. We had a busy month in January with a lot going on in the classrooms. Doughnuts for Dads was a huge success! The children always enjoy bringing their dad to school. February is just as busy with music, drama, chapel, story time, and an Amazing Athletes class to get our energies out while we are often inside more in the winter.

This month also brings us to that time of year when we have to think way ahead and register for the 2019-2020 school year. You have already received your registration packet for the fall. Please fill them out completely and return them to the Preschool Office by February 14th. Take time to talk with your child’s teacher, observe other classrooms, or talk to me about what is best for your child for next year. Rest assured that you have a space with us! Also, invite your friends and neighbors to come and look at our program on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment prior to my return. Once I'm back in the office, visitors are welcome any time. We look forward to meeting new faces each year.

The Parent Council is gearing up for this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week later this month. See their note in the newsletter and connect with them if you can help this event be successful.

Have a great February! Spring is just around the corner!

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up February 18-22nd and parent council needs your help to make this week special and fun!  As in previous years, parent council would like to request a one-time $10 donation per family to cover the cost of the teacher and staff dinner.  Additionally, there will be a gift card tree and teachers will be able to select a few gift cards.  If you would like to donate $5 gift cards to any place you think the teachers would enjoy (Panera, Target, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, etc.) we will be collecting those over the next few weeks.  You may use the attached envelope for any donations and give to your teacher or Ms. Melissa.  If you prefer, you can make your parents council donation via PayPal to mlmoore_99@yahoo.com  (please put “teacher appreciation” in the note section).  Thanks so much for your help!

A note from Pastor Robert
Back when mine and Heather's kids were in the preschool, we made some parent friends and one of them started attending (and later joined) Good Shepherd. I remember so clearly her saying, "We love the preschool and didn't realize there was a church here!" I wanted to let you all know there is a church here and I think it's pretty fantastic! It's warm, friendly, musical, multi-generational, and outwardly focused. Like it says on the wall when you come in - we are "ordinary people with an extraordinary God." If you don't have a church home, we'd love for you to check us out. The kids will see mine and Melissa's familiar faces, and maybe some others as well! And regardless, I am grateful to consider you all a part of our larger Good Shepherd "family." God bless you, Pastor Robert
It’s time to start thinking about next summer. Mark your calendars now and save the dates for the following camp weeks here at Good Shepherd. As usual we will hold all weeks based on enrollment for each week. Weeks may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Look for registration details and specifics coming in the spring. The dates to save are…
June Weeks: 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 25-27
July Weeks: 9-11, 23-25, 30-Aug 1
August Weeks: 6-8
***Dates are subject to change based on Church events***
Amazing Athletes is on hiatus for the months of January and February. You will be invited to register for the spring semester to begin in March. Forms will be coming home with all 3 and 4-year-olds in February. If you have questions, see your child's teacher.
Preschool will be closed on Monday, February 18th for President's Day. Please plan accordingly.
We never know what winter in Charlotte is going to be like. I wanted to update you on weather closing procedures here at preschool. In case of inclement weather, please watch your television or listen to the radio. If Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed, then the preschool will most likely be closed. If for some reason the CMS closing is due to heavy snow/ice in the north part of the county, we can most likely open school. There are church staff in charge of making that decision and you will be notified through Remind (text message). If we are open, please use your best judgement in joining us for the day. Every neighborhood is different. If CMS is delayed (which is rare), then the preschool will open at the usual time. A notice will be sent through Remind. Please note that we do not make up any snow days unless we are closed more than a full week of preschool.
Registration for 2019-2020 is NOW! We have started tours for prospective families on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am or by appointment. If you know someone who is looking for a preschool, please send them our way. Your enrollment packet is due back to the Preschool Office by February 14th. If you have questions about classes or would like to visit any classrooms, please let me know.
You may be wondering what we do at Chapel time each week. The children meet Pastor Robert and I in the sanctuary for a time of singing, a Bible story, and prayer. It is a wonderful time where we hope they are learning that God made them and loves them more than they can imagine. Our themes for February are...
February 7 - Zacchaeus
February 14 - Bartimaeus
February 20 - Feeding the 5000
February 28 - The Lost Sheep
SAVE THE DATE for a very special event...4-year-old graduation!!! We will have a special ceremony on Friday, May 24th at 10:00am! Invite your friends and family now so that they will join us for this special occasion.
The next Kids Club is scheduled for Sunday, February 3rd from 2:00 - 3:30 PM! Like youth group for kids, there will be games, snacks, and an interactive lesson! We hope to see you there! All kids Kindergarten-5th grade are welcome to join us.
Word of mouth is our best advertisement, but in a world of social media that is sometimes a challenge. Would you consider visiting our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/goodshepherdcdp) and sharing a recommendation for our preschool? Also if you are active on Nextdoor, a recommendation goes a long way. Thank you!
