A Note from the Director

I can hardly believe that it is already February. I am writing to you from home as I enjoy the last couple of weeks of my Maternity Leave with little Mattie Grace. I will be back in the office on Tuesday, February 20th. I look forward to seeing you all again then. A big thank you to the teachers for keeping it all running smoothly in my absence and to Doran Buchmann who served diligently in the office during my absence.

We have 4 months to go in this school year and we are already gearing up for next year. We had a busy month in January with a lot going on in the classrooms. Doughnuts for Dads was a huge success! The children always enjoy bringing their dad to school. February is just as busy with music, drama, chapel, story time, and a visit from the dental hygienist to teach us about taking care of our teeth.

This month also brings us that time of year when we have to think way ahead and register for the 2018-2019 school year. You have already received your registration packet for the fall. Please fill them out completely and return them to the Preschool Office by February 14th. Take time to talk with your child’s teacher, observe other classrooms, or talk to me about what is best for your child for next year. Rest assured that you have a space with us! Also, invite your friends and neighbors to come and look at our program on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment prior to my return. Once I'm back in the office, visitors are welcome any time. We look forward to meeting new faces each year.

The Parent Council is gearing up for this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week later this month. See their note in the newsletter and connect with them if you can help this event be successful.

A note about January school closings due to the snow storm...remember we do not make up any snow days until we have missed an entire 5 days of school and can fairly make up the days over spring break. As of now, we have a few more days to enjoy some snow before we have a need to make up school days.

Have a great February!
Spring is just around the corner!

A note from Pastor Robert
At church, leading up to Easter, we are focusing on God's grace (gifts) and particularly freedom from the things that weigh us down and tangle us up. I pray that each of you will experience a bit of that godly grace and freedom in your own families and lives! ~Pastor Robert
Communication with our parents is very important to us here at Preschool. These conferences are tomorrow  and we look forward to meeting with each you to share your child's accomplishments this year in preschool. Please bring any questions or concerns that you have for us too! It's a two way street of communication in order to help our children be successful.
Registration for 2018-2019 is just around the corner! We have started tours for prospective families on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment. If you know someone who is looking for a preschool, please send them our way. We always love meeting new families and welcoming them into our preschool family.

You should already have your registration packet for the fall. If you have questions about classes or would like to visit any classrooms, please let me know.
Amazing Athletes is on hiatus for the months of January and February. You will be invited to register for the spring semester in February. Forms will be coming home with all 3 and 4-year-olds this month. If you have questions, see Melissa in the preschool office.
Preschool will be closed on Monday, February 19 in observance of President's Day. Please plan accordingly.
January brought us a beautiful snow storm that closed school for a couple of days. We have to wait and see what February brings to us. Just a reminder about inclement weather, please watch your television or listen to the radio. If Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed, then the preschool will most likely be closed. In some instances there is no need for us to close because we do not rely on bus transportation or far distance travel. We may decide to open if that is the case. If they are delayed (which is rare), then the preschool will open at the usual time. I will also send an email and a notice through Please note that we do not make up any snow days unless we are closed more than a full week of preschool.
It’s time to start thinking about summer. Mark your calendars now and save the dates for the following camp weeks here at Good Shepherd. As usual we will hold all weeks based on enrollment for each week. Weeks may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Look for registration details and specifics coming in March.
The dates to save are…
June Weeks: 5-7, 12-14, 26-28
July Weeks: 10-12, 17-19, 24-26
August Weeks: July 31- Aug 2, 7-9

Word of mouth is our best advertisement, but in a world of social media that is sometimes a challenge. Would you consider visiting our Facebook page ( and sharing a recommendation for our preschool? Also if you are active on Nextdoor, a recommendation goes a long way. Thank you!
This month we will have a visit from a dental hygienist from Laxer, Long, and Savage, DDS to talk to the children about good dental hygiene. All children ages 2-4 will have a special time with the hygienist to learn about brushing their teeth and choosing the right foods to eat. This is a wonderful program from our community that the children enjoy. Your child will be given a new toothbrush and toothpaste the day that they have the dental hygiene program. I encourage you to continue the conversation at home about taking care of their teeth. It is never too early to start!!
Ms Donna in the Fours class was blessed with a new grandson in January. We wish them well as he joins his big sisters Harleigh and Lily who are both alumni of our program.

We hope that all of you are doing well.
SAVE THE DATE for a very special event... 4-year-old graduation!!! We will have a special ceremony on Friday, May 25th at 10:00am! Invite your friends and family now so that they will join us for this special occasion.
