A Note from the Director

November is here and thankfulness is in the air. I encourage you to take some time this month with your children to stop and talk about what your family is thankful for during this season of the year.

November is a busy month in the preschool. We have several special activities to look forward to this with Ms. Donna, the Barnes and Noble Book Fair, drama with Ms. Marie, World in My Backyard for the 3's and 4's, and Science with Ms. Kathy Shonts. All of this doesn't even touch what the teachers have planned in their classrooms to learn about the change of seasons and celebrate Thanksgiving. We are going to be busy!!

There are also several days in November that school is closed...November 10th in honor Veteran's Day, and November 22-24 for Thanksgiving. We hope that you have a wonderful time at home celebrating these special days with friends and family.

For our Christmas service project this year we are going to join with the church to participate in a Community Christmas Shoppe. There are more details later in the newsletter that I encourage you to read and join in helping us this year to make Christmas a little brighter for families in our community that need help. There are also other opportunities for involvement with this project if your family would like to take a larger role. If you have questions, please let me know.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this month, I want to say how thankful we are to have you as a part of our preschool. God has richly blessed us with a wonderful staff and families that are here each day here at Good Shepherd. Take time this month to celebrate all that your family has to be thankful for in your home.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

A Note from Pastor Robert!
At the end of this month, we will observe Thanksgiving. It is a great opportunity for children and adults to ask and share, "What are you thankful for?" One of the things for which I am thankful is the opportunity to see your children once a week and share stories and music about God with them. Your kids are awesome! ~Robert
You are invited to join us as the four-year-old class presents To Bethlehem! on Thursday, December 7th at 6:30pm. This short program to tell of Jesus' birth in a manger will be followed by a birthday reception. All ages are welcome to celebrate the season with us.
Good Shepherd works with 4 of our neighborhood churches to provide a Christmas Shoppe to serve low income families the area. We provide new coats, gloves, hats, toys, and games "for sale" (about 10 cents on the dollar) to qualified families who apply. These items are purchased for each child in their family up through high school age. We provide a traditional Christmas dinner for the family as well as stocking stuffers for all the children. This ministry enables families who are barely getting by to give their children a Merry Christmas. Last year we assisted over 230 children. The Christmas Shoppe this year will be held Dec 2 & 3 at Candlewyck Baptist Church.

The preschool began partnering with this mission a few years ago by donating stocking stuffers. We are going to help again this year! Suggested items for stocking stuffers: candy, pencils, erasers, matchbox cars, crayons, hair bows, stickers, play dough, small balls, slinkys, bubbles, jump ropes, bracelets. Donations will be accepted through November 21st in the box near the main entrance. Thank you for helping to make Christmas special for those less fortunate.
Are your clothes warm enough for playing outside? With the change of temperatures outside it is a good time to double check the change of clothes in your child's backpack. Please make sure that they still fit and that they are weather appropriate for cooler temperatures. Also, please label all coats, pullovers, hats, gloves, etc. with your child's name. This makes identifying your child's clothing much easier and fewer items are lost.
Your family is invited to participate in Operation Christmas Child here at Good Shepherd. Pick up a box by the glass front doors and return it to the church by November 12th.

Barnes & Noble
Book Fair!
Nov 15 & 16

A great time for holiday shopping, fun events, and helping our school all at once.
From 11/12-11/19, anything you or anyone you know buys from any Barnes and Noble store or online at using our Bookfair Code (coming soon!) counts toward our book fair total and we get a percentage of that for our school. Easy peasy! You can shop anytime and share our code with everyone you know! Facebook, etc.

In-store events are on NOVEMBER 16th!!!!
PARENT COFFEE 9:30: Come buy a coffee at the cafe (use your code!) and do some holiday shopping, order a cheesecake, etc. Also, shop from our teachers' wish lists and gift your child's teacher with a book for the classroom. The tables are in a new, perfect place this year - in the back of the store with the children's books! So if you have other children with you, they can play at the train table while you shop. If you buy a book, make sure to add a bookplate (available at same table) so you can inscribe the book with your child's name.

STORY TIME 1:15: Your child will decorate a Curious George mask at school to bring with them to the store. Right after pickup, bring your child and his/her mask directly to the store. Your favorite GSP teachers will be reading for story time and the B&N staff will lead us in a Curious George parade around the store. We have done this the past few years and the kids LOVE it.

You can also buy cheesecakes for the holidays from the cafe! Pass on to everyone and anyone. Code is COMING SOON! Valid 11/12-11/19. Register in the store for a $25 gift card when you visit the Book Fair. You could be the lucky winner!!!
Knox Smith was born October 17th to the Alexander Family. His big sister is Ellsley in the 3 day Threes.

We hope that all of you are doing well and we look forward to seeing you in our classrooms in a few years.
You may be wondering what we do at Chapel time each week. The children meet Pastor Robert and I in the sanctuary for a time of singing, a Bible story, and prayer. It is a wonderful time where we hope they are learning that God made them and loves them more than they can imagine. Our themes for October are...
November 1st - Joshua
November 8th - Jonah
November 16th - Giving Thanks!
November 29th - Ruth
