EPA Position Statement

Ketamine in psychiatric treatment and research

The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), 58th Session, was asked to review a proposal to place ketamine in Schedule I of the 1971 Convention (E/CN.7/2015/7 and E/CN.7/2015/8).

A wide range of national and international civil society organisations, including medical associations, have voiced concern about the proposal and endorsed the Fact Sheet on the Proposal to Discuss International Scheduling of Ketamine at the 58th CND.

To support the fact sheet and raise awareness, EPA wrote the EPA Position Statement on Ketamine in Psychiatric treatment and research.

The CND has decided to postpone its decision on scheduling ketamine to a future date to allow more information to be gathered.

Save the Date: ECSR 2015

24 -26 September 2015, Berlin

The European Conference on Schizophrenia Research (ECSR) will take place in Berlin from 24-26 September, under the patronage of EPA.

The ECSR 2015 will be held under the motto “Bridging Gaps – Improving Outcomes”. The conference will be an ideal forum to present one's own research and socialize with colleagues. The active contribution of (basic, clinical, health service) researchers, clinicians and therapists to the scientific programme is most welcome.
