City of Boston Puts Fireboat Up for Bid on municibid
The city of Boston is auctioning off the Firefighter, a 72-foot, 1,050-horsepower fireboat that has patrolled the waters of Boston Harbor since 1972.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the 40-year-old fireboat was decommissioned and replaced with a more modern vessel.
“We got a brand-new fireboat and had a formal dedication in September,” he said. “The boat we had served the city since 1972, so the question was how to dispose of it.”
The 125-ton Firefighter “has the potential to be converted to a specialized workboat or yacht,” according to an assessment by marine surveyor Joseph W. Lombardi.

Town expected to sell surplus for $75,000... instead they netted $160,000
The town of Mansfield expected to sell 75 surplus items
for somewhere around $75,000... instead, they earned $160,000 using municibid.
“Needless to say we are thrilled with the results” said Mike Ahern, Special Projects Manager with the Town of Mansfield. Ahern added “but with the exposure and truly competitive bidding through municibid, I have to say it wasn’t that much of surprise that we did so well.” “The best part is we get to keep 100% of the proceeds” said Ahern.
