Most of you will have been involved in Father Christmas events during December.  I hope you all had fun and fellowship raising lots of money for your chosen charities and helping the community. Did you use this opportunity to showcase all that is great about Rotary and recruit new members?

It is also the time for a good old Christmas celebration and I’m sure most clubs will have had a seasonal meal, together with some carol singing or maybe a Christmas quiz.  I joined my own club Stroud for their Christmas meal followed by entertainment by Gloucestershire mummers!

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible next year. If you have not already done so, please invite me to your fund raising and social events, or your usual club meeting to show what your club does.  Thanks to the clubs who have invited Jill and myself to your events in 2014.

Jill and I wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and peaceful New Year.  Let’s continue to Light Up Rotary in 2015.

I met with Comm Voc Chairman Phil Selwood and a group of enthusiastic Rotarian cyclists this week to discuss how clubs can be involved. A presentation will be made at the Mini Convention.

Date for your diary
The inaugural meeting of the Gordano Breakfast Club will be taking place on Thursday 5 March 2015 in the evening.  All Rotarians are welcome to attend.  Further details will be provided by Gordano later.

Rotary Community Corps
I’m pleased to let you know that we have a third RCC in District 1100. Sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Stroud, Nailsworth and Stonehouse and named the 5 Valleys Fireworks RCC.  The Corps will be using their skills and experience helping the clubs run the annual 5 Valleys Fireworks event.  A presentation about this event will be made at the Mini Convention. It will certainly spark interest and go off with a bang.

Don'tWe welcome new members

Every Club and every member should be conscious of highlighting Rotary and recruiting new members. For some unknown reason we are not very good at it but we must keep recruiting to keep this organisation alive. The RIBI Membership Committee have just launched Rotary Growth Opportunity (G0) and the campaign defines all the membership opportunities open to every member and club. Be sure you take a look at it.
Only one new member reported this time around:

North Cotswold inducted Ed Alexander in the last wee.
Welcome to the family of Rotary and enjoy the experience.

Proposed Second RYLA Course

Some club members have enquired how they could get more young people involved in this but in the same breath complain about the cost. 'A lot of money for one person' is the usual statement.
Well the guys from RYLA are trying to do just that, bring the cost down. They are exploring running two courses per year but need your help. They want Rotarians to find and help applicants  and also pass on leads and links for possible sponsors, like charitable trusts and companies looking to make a difference as part of social responsibility.
Andy Jarrett tells us his time frame for external funding begins in January 2015 to be secured by May. If this does not happen then we will be stuck with the same 40 places and of course the same high cost to a sponsoring club of £530 so it is over to you.
