News and views across Rotary District 1100.

A new Rotary year; we ask each of you to Light Up Rotary.

My very first task as your Governor is to thank you for your support. Thank you also to the fantastic number of Rotarians who supported Past Governor Jan and myself at the  Handover at Egypt Mill Nailsworth.

Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) President Peter King will be visiting twice in the year - from August 6 to 7 to see what Clubs are doing and again at our District Conference, which takes place at Warwick University March. 27 – 29 2015

You will have the opportunity to meet Peter at a dinner at Egypt Mill in the evening of August 6. All Rotarians are invited on a first come basis, as numbers are limited, cost £16. If you wish to attend, please contact AG Joan Goldsmith.

Plans for the Conference at Warwick University are well under way, with a stimulating programme. An orchestral concert on Friday night and a sumptuous Dinner followed by a band on Saturday are part of the exciting programme. The package will be fully inclusive of hotel accommodation, meals and entertainment. Registration will commence in September and a really entertaining weekend of fellowship and enjoyment is planned.

District 1100 is working well; it is exciting, vibrant, hardworking, innovative and is what a good district should be, with so many good projects making a difference to the lives of those in need. Thank you for lighting Up Rotary.

I look forward to seeing some of your Rotary Days that are planned for the year and meeting as many of you as possible.

Philippines Appeal Update.

In March 2014, contact was made with the President of RC of Kankabato (District 3860), which is in the heart of the area devastated by the typhoon. Club members are involved in emergency work to help their countrymen, so he came back with ideas for the use of D1100 funds.  However not the long-term, community- based project which the Rotarians in D1100 had in mind when they gave so generously.

Hopefully we will soon be given details of a long-term, community-based project suitable for a Global Grant, so that we can multiply up the monies raised, using Foundation funds.  We are hoping for a project which can be ‘badged’, so that D1100 Rotarians will have evidence of how their generosity has benefited a community affected by the Typhoon .
