John Carroll Weekend Alumni Pitch Competition

Tampon Tribe took home the title of Pitch Competition Winner at John Carroll Weekend Seattle in April 2018! A sponsorship prize of $7,000 was awarded to help further their business growth. Founder Giana Korth (B'10) shared in a Facebook video how she will use the prize money and expressed her thanks to the incredible panel of judges and GEA members who made the Pitch Competition a success. Ario Keshani (F'05) is the co-founder of Split, a transportation tech startup focused on moving people efficiently and sustainably in major urban areas. Split was acquired by MOIA, a company of the Volkswagen Group, and was integrated into MOIA, serving as the technology engine for MOIA's ride-pooling innovations.

The 2018 GEA Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at WeWork White House, home of the brand new Georgetown Venture Lab. More details to come. We look forward to celebrating with you then! 

GEA Volunteer Positions:
Hoyapreneurs Needed

The GEA is looking to fill a few volunteer positions. Volunteering your time is a fantastic way to give back to Georgetown and the GEA, and connect with fellow Hoyas. Volunteer opportunities include: 

  • Communications Volunteers:
    • Hoyapreneur Reporter: We need Hoyas outside of DC to report on and promote stories about local Hoyapreneurs in their local areas. Duties include writing one blog post per month and posting related social media content per month. Volunteer Commitment: 2 hours/month.
    • Social Media Contributor: Create and distribute social posts to promote Hoyapreneur awareness on GEA social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn). Help manage and grow the GEA LinkedIn Group. Volunteer Commitment: 2 hours/month. 
    • Website Manager: Update Squarespace website content including Hoyapreneurs in the News, event information, and feature stories. Squarespace experience needed. 2 hours/month. 
  • Pitch Competition Volunteer: Assist in organizing the Third Annual Alumni Pitch Competition, including identifying and vetting Hoya startups. The Pitch Competition will take place at John Carroll Weekend Boston in April 2019. Volunteer Commitment: 8 hours/month.

As Ted Leonsis (C'77) celebrated the Washington Capitals' Stanley Cup victory earlier this month, we looked back at Ted's wise words from 2011 on "How I Became an Entrepreneur." Ted was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2015 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards.
