2018 Summer Retreat

The GEA Board met in July for their annual summer retreat where they evaluated past successes and outlined plans for future growth. Key accomplishments from the 2017-2018 year include:

  • Launching of the GEA Group on Hoya Gateway to foster connections between experienced and budding entrepreneurs.
  • Record attendance and visibility of the signature Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards and Alumni Pitch Competition.
  • Launching of the GEA Angel Network to help startups find the funding and expertise they need to grow.

For the 2018-2019 year, the Board is dedicated to increasing GEA membership numbers, driving the growth of the GEA Hoya Gateway group, and continuing to expand the visibility, impact, and recognition of the outstanding entrepreneurial endeavors in the alumni community.

Hoyapreneurs Needed

The GEA board is looking for experienced entrepreneurs to contribute their expertise, Hoya networks, and time to lead key committees. We have two positions open:

  • Communications Committee: Create a communication strategy to help increase GEA awareness and membership. Play a critical role in promoting GEA signature events including the GEA Pitch competition and excellence awards.  Lead a team of volunteers to develop and distribute content via the website, newsletter and social channels.
  • GEA Pitch Competition: Develop and execute a plan for the 2019 GEA Pitch competition to be held in Boston during John Carroll Weekend. Priorities will include recruiting applicants, selecting finalist, and working with the Alumni team to host the event. Requires a commitment to attend the Pitch Competition in person.

If you are interested in volunteering your time and expertise to either of these areas, or if you are interested in getting involved in other ways, please email us at
