Medical Director Note

The provision of After Hours care in our region has now improved. Patients can and have been able to present to Mt Barker Hospital with triage 4-5 category problems and receive care.

I wish to thank those who have filled these extra shifts and Jorin and Jo for all their work. If every GP with admitting rights put their hand up for a shift, I think you might get 1 shift every 3-4 months. (we already have a large number regularly filled).

We now offer weekend shifts...short and long with two doctors present, evening shifts, and overnight sessions.

We have held meetings in Mt Barker and Stirling and a summary of issues covered will be sent to all practices. It's brief and if any dot points need clarifying please contact us.

It was thought that a part of GP training should include After Hours exposure, as occurs in Strathalbyn, Gumeracha and Mt Pleasant. With the variety of sessions available, we feel GP Registrars should feel supported and get excellent training exposure.

Medical Director
