County Attorney’s Office Hosts Child Abuse Prevention Event with Free Showing of Cars at The Loft

TUCSON, AZ - The Pima County Attorney’s Office is hosting a free showing of the Disney film, Cars, a family-friendly movie, at The Loft Cinema at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016.  This event marks the start of Child Abuse Prevention Month – April.

Before the film, there will be brief presentations by representatives from local agencies that serve youth in the community. Featured organizations hope to raise awareness about the tragedy of child abuse and will showcase services they provide to abused children.  These organizations include:  Casas de los Niños, Aviva, Child and Family Resources, Southern Arizona Children’s Advocacy Center, 88-CRIME, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson.

Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall stated that victims of child abuse often suffer terrible physical injuries, and those who survive must live with emotional trauma, as well.  LaWall noted that, “Child abuse is one of the most heartbreaking crimes we see in our community, and it is far too prevalent.”  According to the Centers for Disease Control, the United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect.

The Loft Cinema is located at 3233 E. Speedway Boulevard, Tucson, Arizona 85716.  Ample free parking is available. Complimentary popcorn and water will be provided at this event.
