Birthdays and Painting for a Purpose:

On January 25th, Annie turned 28!  That weekend we had a GHFP Cocktails for a Cause party where friends were encouraged to bring toys for the orphans instead of gifts for Annie.  We at GHFP were excited to receive soccer balls, bookbags, school supplies, nail polish, and children's toys. These toys will be taken to the kids on our upcoming service-learning trips in July.

Our current fundraising initiative is to raise money for the GHFP Computer and English Literacy lab at eLangeni Primary School.  GHFP has 3 children enrolled at this school that recently obtained electricity.  Big thanks to Ashley Burton and friends for hosting a Painting for a Purpose party in Indianapolis on February 4th.  The 10 girls (and 1 guy, thanks Nick!!) were guided by Kait to create beautiful flower masterpieces! :) The evening raised enough money for a brand new computer at the eLangeni Primary school.  If anyone in the Indianapolis or Lafayette area is interested in hosting their own Painting for a Purpose party, please contact Kait:
It's a lot of fun and 100% of the profits go toward the computer lab!!

Timmy Global Health talk & Recruitment:

1200 students in two days... GHFP recruitment was a complete success!! February marks the official recruitment month for GHFP's upcoming summer service-learning trips to Swaziland and it started with a bang at Purdue and Marian Universities.  February 1st & 2nd Annie spoke to 10 classes at Purdue, reaching over 1100 students. Wednesday evening was the Timmy Global Health panel discussion where Annie spoke to 100 Purdue students alongside Dr. Chuck Dietzen MD (Timmy Founder & President), Dr. Ellen Gruenbaum PhD (Purdue Anthropology Department Head) and Elizabeth O'Neil (Purdue Director of Nursing Clinics). The purpose of the evening was to introduce international opportunities to students & inspire them to make a difference in the world.  Dr. Dietzen, who once assisted Mother Teresa, encouraged the students to "find their own Calcutta".  Then recruitment moved to Marian University with "Operation Change the World".  This was a student-led event that encouraged students to "shop for a cause".  GHFP had a table along with TOMS shoes, Global Gifts and Krochet Kids.  GHFP sold Artisan Direct goods to eager students wanting to get involved.

Recruitment continues later this month at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Colorado and the War on Hunger club at Purdue.  If you are wanting to participate on a trip this summer, contact Annie for more details ( and visit our website for the upcoming dates in July 2012
