Season Greetings from the Grampians!

It has truly been a remarkable year and as we approach 2019, I would like to thank all of you, our industry and trade partners, stakeholders and colleagues for your ongoing support and collaboration.

We have continued to grow the visitor economy in the Grampians with data showing excellent results for our region and importantly our 5-year average annual growth figures are all above the Victoria arrival stats. In 2018 we were No. 2 Region in the state for increases in expenditure and visitor nights and No. 1 Region for increase in length of stay.

State elections in November saw the return of the Andrews Government for another 4-year term and also a new Minister for Tourism and Major Events, the Hon. Martin Pakula. We look forward to working with Minister Pakula, to continue growing the visitor economy in our state and to help drive economic benefit for our region.

Huge congratulations to the 2018 RACV Victorian Tourism Award participants from across the Grampians region. The quality of entrants to the Tourism Awards this year has been outstanding and proves our accommodation, attractions and experiences in the Grampians region continue to shine!

It was fantastic to attend the Victoria’s International Exchange - VIE 2018 in Melbourne this month and catch up with industry partners and all the Visit Victoria International Managers from around the globe. The International Market to the Grampians currently represents approximately 395,400 nights in our region with an annual growth of over 20%.

Over the holiday period Grampians Tourism will be closing from the 21 Dec – 4 Jan. From all of us here at GT we wish you happy holidays and look forward to another rewarding year together in 2019!

Merry Christmas to all and stay safe these holidays!

 DECEMBER 2018

The Grampians Peaks Trail will be a hike of 160km that can be experienced in sections or as one journey over 13 days and there will be options for all hiking abilities including fully-facilitated walks and guided tours.

Scoping works have been completed in all sections of the Trail and three contractors have been engaged to clear track in the north section with work commenced between Roses Gap and Halls Gap. The track clearing involves the removal of all vegetation along the walking track alignment. This section of track is expected to be cleared and ready for construction by early in the new year.

The tender for track construction is closing at the end of November with a contractor being appointed in December. The design of the Hiker Camps is near final and tendering is on schedule for December.

In December Parks Victoria will begin seeking expressions of Interest for Aboriginal Rangers who will play an important role guiding the new visitor experiences. The north experience will be a three-day hike from Dead Bullock Creek to Halls Gap rich in Aboriginal culture.

The south experience, a multi-day hike from Cassidy Gap to Dunkeld, will be developed in association with a commercial partner to create a walking experience that is focused on the culinary offerings of the region.
