It was fantastic to see Grampians region highlighted this week in the Wall Street Journey in the USA as one of the Top 10 Places in the world to Travel in 2020....before everyone else does - read all about it HERE.

This month Grampians Tourism hosted 12 agents from Germany and Switzerland who were in the Grampians as part of the Tourism Australia, Corroboree Aussie Specialist trade event. It was great to have Barbara Samoilenko, Marketing Manager Continental Europe Visit Victoria and our German Aussie Specialists in the Grampians for an exciting educational.

The latest results from Tourism Research Australia data show the Grampians region continues to increase in popularity receiving nearly 1.2 million domestic overnight visitors - up by 15.3% on YE Jun 18 and visitors spent over 2.9 million nights in the region - up by 9.8% on YE Jun 18. Another fantastic result for the Grampians and wonderful to see our Grampians Way marketing campaign has helped increase front of mind awareness, increased visitation and inspired visitor dispersal to all corners of the region.

It was wonderful to accompany four Grampians tourism partners to Melbourne this month to present a 2019 product update to the team at Visit Victoria. Participating businesses included Heath and Hemley House, A.T. Richardson Wines, Seppelt (Destination Great Western) and Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co. who all delivering an inspiring product update!

Congratulations to all the wineries and winemakers from the Grampians, Pyrenees, Henty and Ballarat regions who were involved in the 2019 Western Victorian Wine Challenge held last week in Ararat. I'm really happy to advise that Tom and Sarah Guthrie from Grampians Estate were the big winners awarded judges Best Wine of Show and were also the most successful exhibitor of show. Grampians wine region also took home the most successful region award for 2019 - well done everyone!

After our Grampians Tourism AGM and General Meeting this month, members of the GT Board attended a site inspection of Grampians Peaks Trail construction progress with Simon Talbot Parks Victoria and members of Barengi Gadjin Land Council. The progress work is outstanding and once completed will become an icon walk for Victoria and Australia attracting an additional 30k plus visitors to our region.

FEATURE TOURISM SUPPORTER - OREGIONAL COLLECTIVE
At Grampians Tourism we are focused on building a Tourism Team who are united in achieving our collective goals of more visitors staying longer, doing extra and spending more.

Every business, every person has a role to play in driving and delivering tourism in the Grampians region and our new Tourism Supporter Partnership enables business or individuals who may not be directly involved in the Grampians visitor economy the opportunity to get involved.

Directors Vanessa Briody, Kate Kirkpatrick and Andrew Wiebusch have worked on projects with numerous iconic national and international brands, such as Stella Artois, Country Racing Victoria, the Royal Melbourne Show and Suzuki Australia. However, it's their love for regional Victoria and the common bond they all share to produce intelligent, tailored and beautifully executed project solutions that drives their success.

With teams lead by the terrific trio, Oregional has been making its mark in the Grampians region over recent years. You will recognise their stand-out creative and event management finesse in the Grampians Grape Escape, which has seen close to a 50% increase in attendance since Oregional breathed new life into the festival. The fresh look and feel, along with the introduction of many developments and initiatives, have ensured the success and longevity of this all-important tourism product.
The team is also behind The Grampians Way creative, brand strategy and GT member's information tool kit. Oregional is now collaborating with The Journey Beyond event managing the Great Southern Rail dinner which is set to showcase the Grampians every Friday during December and January. What a highlight for our region!

VICTORIAN CRAFT PRODUCE FUNDING AVAILABLE

The Andrews Labor Government is backing Victoria’s small-scale and craft producers to grow – creating new jobs and attracting more visitors from interstate and overseas to enjoy our locally-made food, beer and spirits.
Minister for Agriculture Jaclyn Symes recently launched the Labor Government’s $10 million Small-Scale and Craft Program, encouraging all small-scale producers across Victoria to apply.

Two streams of funding are available under the new program:
Stream OneSmall-scale and Craft Business Development: Grants up to $25,000 are available to eligible small-scale and craft producers for projects that support businesses to scale up, expand their operations and diversify their products – with applications closing on 6 December.

Stream Two – Job Creation and Economic Development: Grants of $25,000-$200,000 will go to eligible small scale and craft agribusinesses for significant projects that will deliver benefits to the community and generate jobs.

This new program follows on from the successful Artisanal Sector Program, which delivered grants to businesses in Victoria’s highly valued and diverse artisanal produce sector, helping them grow production, enhance their farmers’ market potential and take their local produce to the world.
Projects involving multiple businesses are particularly encouraged to apply, with Expressions of Interest, which close on 31 December.
To find out more about the program, eligibility requirements and to apply, visit: agriculture.vic.gov.au/agriculture/food-and-fibre-industries/artisanal-agriculture.

South West TAFE Presentation & ATDW Workshop

Grampians Tourism are joining forces with South West TAFE and Visit Victoria (ATDW) to deliver two short, effective training workshops.
The first focuses on the Fee Free Cert III in Tourism from South West TAFE. If you or a member of your staff  are interested in completing a Certificate III in Tourism in 2020 come along and talk to the South West TAFE team about how you can access a FEE FREE TAFE Course next year.

The course has been purpose built to upskill the local tourism workforce to support the continued growth in demand across the region.
The qualification provides the skills to work in many travel and tourism roles for a diverse range of employers.

The second workshop is learning how to make the most of your ATDW listing. The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) provides a simple and effective way for tourism and event operators to connect with the audiences of high profile websites including visitgrampians.com.au, visitvictoria.com and Australia.com.
Luke Medcalf, Web Content Manager from Visit Victoria, will be in the Grampians to help tourism businesses increase their online visibility by hosting a one hour workshop.

Grampians Peaks Trail
Work on the Grampians Peaks Trail is progressing towards opening new sections in the north and south in 2020.
A third of the trails have been constructed, and we continue to work with the Traditional Owners of Gariwerd on the trail alignment.
Footbridges and hiker camps will be constructed over the next six months in these sections, continuing to the remaining sections to open the full trail in December 2020.
Once open, hikers can experience a three day /two-night walk in the north, and a two day /one-night walk in the south. The Grampians Peaks Trail is a world-class walking experience of 160km that can be experienced in sections, or as one 13-day journey. The south-bound journey will showcase the beauty and majesty of the Grampians National Park’s natural and cultural landscapes.

Grampians Landscape Management Plan
In September Parks Victoria held six workshops, a drop-in and five listening posts where community members could provide their ideas and feedback on the future management of the landscape. Altogether 270+ people attended across the 12 events. Parks Victoria is very thankful to everyone who participated and provided their ideas for the future of this highly valued landscape.
If you are interested in learning more about the project you can visit Engage Victoria HERE. On the website, you can see a video of the workshop presentations, read the discussion papers and register for updates. There will be further opportunities to provide feedback on the draft Plan in 2020.
