Winter in the Grampians is a magical time, and I'm all about the smooth Shiraz and mountain fresh air, and the sprinkling of snow we get on those freezing mornings, but I get even MORE excited about the incredible reach we get on Facebook when we share the stunning snowy shots from the top of Mt William!

Our "snowy Grampians" Facebooks posts this winter have achieved a combined reach of over 264,000 people - including one post which was the highest performing post on record for the Visit Grampians digital team.

The Grampians region continues to surge in popularity with excellent results in the recent National Visitor Survey showing a 14.9% increase in visitor numbers and a 19.9% increase in nights in region for YE March 2019. Our 5-year annual average growth rates are also all above both Victoria and Regional Victoria visitation measures.

This winter, our marketing focus has been on creating compelling campaigns that position Grampians as a must-visit – “winter wonderland” and helps drive visitation & visitor dispersal during the off-peak winter period.

It has been another busy month on the road launching our new 2019/20 Preferred Partner Program and I’m really excited to advise that we have experienced a 25% increase in industry investment in GT which supports our destination marketing efforts and helps to grow the visitor economy in the Grampians.

Congratulations to the Grampians & Pyrenees Winemakers for another successful Red Series event in Ballarat last weekend! Over 600 attended the special wine event and our team attended to encourage Ballarat wine lovers to visit the Grampians for Seriously Shiraz event from 30th August to 1st September.

We are really excited about the news of Budj Bim Cultural Landscape being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Cultural Landscape has been recognised for its highly sophisticated aquaculture systems, developed over 6,600 years by the Gunditjmara people. Budj Bim is located on the border of the Grampians region and further supports our amazing Aboriginal tourism experience.

Grab your jacket, beanie and head out to the Grampians this weekend!

'REGIONAL INDUSTRY CONVERSATIONS' - REGIONAL TOURISM REVIEW
You are invited to attend one of the Victorian Government’s ‘Regional Industry Conversations’, as a part of the Regional Tourism Review.

The Regional Industry Conversations are a series of workshops being held throughout Victoria where the tourism industry and communities are encouraged to have their say on the future of regional tourism and the visitor economy.

The Regional Industry Conversations will be facilitated discussions based on the recently released Discussion Paper, that will address five key themes:
  • Strengthening our tourism offering
  • Making the most of our marketing spending
  • Supporting industry
  • Enhancing Regional Tourism Boards
  • Better coordinating efforts
The Victorian Government has initiated the review to explore opportunities to better support tourism in the regions, enhance private investment, create more regional jobs, explore ways to better support industry and community and streamline government support.

Ms. Mary-Anne Thomas MP is leading the review, including consultation in regional communities and overseeing the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions’ work in delivering the review.

You may attend any one of the Regional Industry Conversations at your convenience. The sessions in our region are as follows, please click on the link to register:

JULY 2019

Track clearing and construction is progressing on the priority sections in the north and south. In the south, there are some areas of particularly challenging terrain where we will have steel stairs to allow safe hiking; these are currently being designed.

Finalising the key design elements and preparation for constructing the hiker camps is in full swing. Focusing on the camps in the priority sections that will open first, these four camps will give a taste of things to come. Designed to respond to each sites individual landscape, a light touch will be applied to construction with minimal vegetation clearance and disturbance to the environment. Materials in the area will be used where possible to build seating and other camp elements, ensuring harm and introduced assets are kept to a minimum.

Tent pads and boardwalks will be in place to protect the flora and fauna underneath, and each camp is orientated to take the best advantage of the view over Gariwerd, using the natural peaks to provide protection from the elements.

Come autumn 2020, you can walk along precipices, wind through creek beds, climb hand-carved stone steps and be dwarfed by the grandeur of rock formations and the ancient landscape. You’ll be able to choose from two new multi-day walks; a two-night / three-day section in the north, or a two-day/two-night section in the south, either as an independent walker or as part of a signature experience offer.
