Preparing Our Sites for Closure
March 2020

What a difference from last month's issue to now. This issue is devoted to prepping some items on our websites as we transition to this period of time where our communities will rely more on our websites than before. Most of the tutorials are in the form of video tutorials for the sake of urgency and time. I apologize if this is not your preferred learning method.

Please continue to reach out to me during this time. I will be in the office in the mornings for sure and then things may transition to afternoons working from home. In that case, I have provided my cell phone number for you to still be able to reach me.

1. Grade Level Acedmic Resource Pages

I communicating with Curriculum and Instruction to see what we will be providing district wide and the best ways to make this accessible to all of our students. So far, curriculum decisions are being made by school sites and at the area level.

Some school sites have decided to move forward with grade level pages. Please view the video below with directions on how to do this on your websites. There is also a chunk of code mentioned which is available below for you to copy and paste into your source code area of a Text Window (similar to iframing).

This tutorial is primarily for Elementary schools. Secondary already had department specific pages in place that can be alterred. Please feel free to use these principals from this video to get creative and meet the needs of our students.

3. Calendars on the Homepage

Calendar Syncing Tutorial >>
Cheryl Cross sent out an email last week about canceling events in schooldude. They should appear in schooldude as a grey dot with a black line or x.
  • If you are the person at your site in charge of schooldude events, please continue to do this at least up to Spring Break. If you are not this person, please communicate with your school dude person.
  • After doing so, please sync your calendars at the end of the day so we can ensure they are working.
  • Canceled events should not appear on your website. If they still are after all of this, please send screenshots or event numbers to me so I can get them to people in charge of fixing our calendar issues.
  • This seems to be working for some school sites and not others. If it continues to not work for your school site, please send me a screenshot of canceled events in your schooldude calendar for me to foward on to our developers. SO SORRY for this ongoing frustration.

4. Enrollment Links

Some of your websites still may have the wrong links to the enrollment pages on the district site.

For Elementary sites:
  • Located in the dropdown AND the side navigation (remember, these operate separately)
    • Parents; Resources
Here is the new link:

5. App Marketing Push

During this time, feel free to advertise your school app! We are sending out regular push notifications and news items to the app and it is the perfect way to make sure your community is staying up to date on information both the district and you as a school is sending out.
