MEMORIAL FOR DOC THULINE
Please join us for a service in witness of the resurrection for Horace Thuline
at 2:00 PM on September 30th, 2016 at
Southminster Presbyterian Church, 19834 8th Ave S, Des Moines, WA 98148.

May the good earth be soft under you
When you rest upon it,
May it rest easy over you when
At the last, you lay out under it,
And may it rest so lightly over you
That your soul may be out
From under it quickly, and up, and off,
And be on its way to God
AFTERTALK
Join us Sunday after worship as we renew our Aftertalk conversations. These gatherings are designed to offer conversational space to help us together make the link from worship to the world.
LISTEN TO THE WORD THAT GOD HAS SPOKEN...
God's Word to us is alive and active in the traditions of the church and also in the lives of the community. On the first Sunday of every month, starting in October, we will give our littlest ones some space where they can listen and share what God is saying to them.

This Sunday, during worship, as we sing "Glory to God" you will see Maggie gather our kids together. And then, just like we always do, we will pray together that God's word to us will be revealed in the scriptures read and the word proclaimed. After we have prayed, those children and youth that want to, will go with Maggie to the Children's library. Together they will engage some age appropriate activities that will facilitate a conversation about the text for the day, or some other part of worship, or whatever is on their minds. The group will come back to the sanctuary after the sermon so that we can have communion together.

We hope to allow our little kids some worshipful space that is deeply connect to the larger community at worship, attends to their particular needs, and takes seriously the claim that God is active and teaches us through all of God's people, including our youngest. Parents and caregivers, talk to Maggie if you have questions or thoughts.

STARS - NEXT THURSDAY
Plan to join us next Thursday, October 6th at 11:30 at St. Andrew for our first gathering of the season. Our unique group of seniors and retirees always welcomes newcomers and guests. Think about sharing a memory from your summer so we can reconnect after our hiatus since June. Our shared meal will be potluck style with all menu items appreciated. Perhaps we can call this our own version of Oktoberfest!
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Here are some opportunities for service. Can you help?
  • We rely on volunteers  each Sunday to staff the nursery. If you are interested in helping out once every couple of months, we could use you!
  • We are grateful for our office volunteers, but could use one or two more people to help out during the week.
  • Each Sunday it takes a village to prepare the sanctuary for worship. Thanks to those who help in small and large ways typically one Sunday each month. We have a few openings.
If any of these roles fits you, talk to any of the staff, or Pat or Carolynn or send us an email at communications@standrewpc.org.
