CERIC has made the difficult decision to shift from a hybrid Cannexus22 conference to a fully virtual one. This decision was made with a heavy heart, knowing how much our career development community wants to be able to gather face-to-face again in Ottawa. The decision was based on a range of factors that have changed over the past few months, combined with ongoing uncertainty. We felt we needed to make the decision now to allow time for in-person delegates to cancel any travel plans and in-person presenters to be integrated into the virtual program.

What it means to you?

We have reached out directly to anyone participating in the in-person program. For those already registered for the virtual conference, there is no change, except you'll have even more choice among 150+ incredible sessions. For anyone who hasn’t registered yet, we invite you to join us for the virtual edition of Canada's largest bilingual career and workforce development conference to convene, share and learn.

Why make the shift?

Although the Ontario government continues to loosen capacity restrictions, we felt we are not able to guarantee we can 1) provide equitable access to the in-person conference or 2) deliver the robust in-person Cannexus experience that people have come to expect.

Among the many considerations:

  • Uncertainty of the long-term commitment to lifting capacity limits and risk of further restrictions on the number of people who could gather to learn and network together in-person

  • The pandemic situation is currently very different across provinces and regions, affecting people’s comfort level with an in-person conference and making it difficult to host a truly pan-Canadian event

  • We were also beginning to see cancellations from in-person presenters who no longer wanted to travel, impacting the overall balance and breadth of the program

We are of course excited to proceed with the virtual version of Cannexus. Our first virtual Cannexus conference held earlier this year attracted more than 2,300 delegates from throughout the entire career ecosystem. The virtual Cannexus22 will build on this to continue to reimagine how career development can be a powerful catalyst in pandemic recovery.

Watch for the programming that was scheduled for the in-person conference to be added to the virtual over the coming weeks. In the interim, check out both programs for a full sense of what will be available to you.

As a reminder, the virtual conference offers you and your team:

  • An essential and empowering opportunity for learning and renewal

  • Keynotes: Waneek Horn-Miller, Yvonne Rodney and Randell Adjei

  • Sessions from expert presenters across Canada and around the globe

  • Special programming including a virtual KAIROS Blanket Exercise, exploring the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada

  • Latest research, policy and practice: post-COVID labour market trends, mental health, hybrid service delivery and more

  • Big picture conversations around economic and social change + skills building to support client success

  • Access to recordings for six months – so you don’t miss a thing

A new BONUS virtual day (Feb. 4) has been added for the first time after the conference to help you reflect on what you heard and to facilitate you taking action. It’s included in your registration and will be led by UBC Professor Emeritus Norm Amundson and Andrea Fruhling of DoubleKnot Works.

Early Bird deadline extended to Nov. 19

In recognition of this change from hybrid to fully virtual conference, the Early Bird registration deadline is now being extended to Friday, Nov. 19

The Early Bird rate for the virtual conference continues to be $330.

  • Members of groups of 5 or more save a further 25% off Early Bird rates

  • Members of 36 supporting organizations also save a further 25% off Early Bird rates

  • Student rate is only $50

What about the format for future Cannexus conferences?

It remains our goal and our hope to be in a position to offer a hybrid Cannexus in future years as soon as conditions allow.

"I appreciated the opportunity to attend virtually. I felt connected to other professionals and communities. It gave a sense of hope in these challenging times that there are caring, committed professionals in our field to carry on developing our workforce and supporting individuals in reaching their potential."
