Pledge for FOLKS Promos September 10-16

When organizations work together through teamwork and collaboration, exceptional things happen. This is one of the reasons we and 60 of our other nonprofit friends in the region have partnered with WGCU Public Media for the "WGCU Community Campaign” radio pledge drive.

A couple times a year WGCU turns to the community to raise the necessary funds to keep public radio programming on the air. These “pledge drives” are critical to WGCU’s operations and thousands of people from our region donate money

Here’s the fun part! On Tuesday, September 13 at 5:00 pm, FOLKS will be live on air on WGCU FM, raising funds for Southwest Florida’s award-winning public radio station. In return, WGCU will award us with free radio promos that we can use to promote our events and our mission throughout the next year.

Help us receive free radio spots!

Just call in anytime during the pledge campaign (September 10-16) and make a pledge of any dollar amount. Let them know you’re pledging to help the Friends of Lovers Key receive radio spots!  Once we earn $1000 directly attributed to the FOLKS, we’ll have 28 free spots to run on WGCU FM.  The more we raise, the most spots we receive. Your gift not only supports our local treasure, WGCU Public Radio, but also provides us with valuable marketing opportunities.

WGCU-FM can be found at 90.1 on the FM Dial (91.7 FM on Marco Island), is streamed live on WGCU.org, or can be accessed through the WGCU mobile app.  Make your pledge of support by calling 1-800-533-9428 or by pledging online at WGCU.org.

Just make sure that you select FOLKS as the nonprofit you’d like to support with free radio promos!

23rd Annual National Public Lands Day
Give Back To Your Local Public Lands
Lovers Key State Park Workday

Contributed by Katie Moses, Lovers Key State Park Services Specialist.

Consider that one-third of the land in America is ours – public land where we can all hike, bike, climb, swim, explore, picnic or just plain relax. There’s a special joy in getting our hands dirty when it helps keep our land beautiful. National Public Lands Day is an opportunity to spruce up these lands while helping us get back to some of the places we love.

On September 24th, thousands of volunteers around the nation will build trails and bridges, pull invasive weeds, plant trees, remove trash and have fun getting back to nature. At the same time, they’ll get quite a workout on America’s public lands – the gym with a view. They’ll learn about the human impact on parks and lands as well as take part in a service endeavor fed with the energy of volunteers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.

Help do your part for America’s lands locally at Lovers Key State Park. Friends of Lovers Key, Inc will be hosting a park workday in honor of the 23rd Annual National Public Lands Day Saturday, September 24th from 9am -12pm.

Join Lovers Key State Park Rangers and Volunteers to maintain trails, remove exotic invasive plant species, and pick up litter to help ensure Lovers Key is a wonderful place to visit and excellent habitat for the park's wildlife.

Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes. Refillable water bottles, sunscreen, hats, gloves and bug repellent are highly recommended. Pre-registration for this workday is required. To register, please contact the Ranger Station at (239) 463-4588.
