Forum details are as follows:

When: Wednesday, December 6th
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Newton South Auditorium
The panel discussion will be hosted by Boston Globe writer Beth Teitell and include both Newton educators and experts from outside the district.

I hope to see you there.

Newton Boards and Commissions Openings
Oct 22, 2017 10:28 am | Newton PTO Council

Newton residents participate in local government as members of more than fifty boards, commissions, committees and advisory councils serving the City. Such broad citizen involvement helps our government remain open and responsive. Residents play a critical role in the work required to address the wide variety of needs in our city.

Appointments to the City’s boards and commissions are made most frequently by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council, but some are made directly by the City Council or the School Committee. The following boards and commissions are some of the key groups with openings that the City of Newton is looking to fill:

Commission on Disability Community Preservation Committee
Human Rights Commission

If you have an interest in one of these areas and would like to volunteer to serve, please apply on line at

The webpage also has a list of all openings, and applications to any of these groups are welcomed as well.

Oct 22, 2017 10:05 am | Newton PTO Council

Friends, are you clearing out closets with the change of season? Recycle your style for a cause by donating items to Hannah’s Heroes partnership with Plato’s Closet.

Hannah’s Heroes raises money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in honor of Hannah Gonzalez, a Newton South Senior who has been living with Type 1 for almost 6 years. JDRF is the leading non-profit organization working towards finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Plato’s Closet buys and sells current styles for both teens and adults…guys too! They buy all seasons, year-round with a focus on casual trends (from the past 1-2 years) in great condition. In addition to clothing, Plato’s purchases shoes, handbags, jewelry, hats and other accessories.

All proceeds from clothing purchased by Plato’s Closet will be donated to Hannah’s Heroes. Please bring items to Plato’s Closet in Waltham and mention Hannah’s Heroes. If it’s easier, you can drop the items off at the Gonzalez home. Contact Leslie for more information at
