Establishment of a Network for South-Eastern European Jewish Studies

Announcing a meeting in Belgrade on 7th July 2016 to discuss the establishment of a Network for South-Eastern European Jewish Studies. Such an international academic network would establish cooperation between scholars in Jewish studies, encourage the coordination and organization of conferences, seminars, courses, colloquia, workshops, and support publications dedicated specifically to Jewish studies in the region, promoting Jewish studies by focusing on the South-Eastern European region, a multi-ethnic and multi-religious area at the crossroads of the Mediterranean, Central and Eastern European World.

The meeting will be held at the end of the international conference “The Western Balkan Encounter of Sepharad and Ashkenaz: Between Tradition and Change” taking place in Belgrade from 5th to 7th July 2016. Scholars (professors, senior researchers, PhD and MA candidates, independent researchers, etc.) who are interested in participating in the open forum at the end of the conference are invited to join the discussion about the formation of such a regional network. Limited funds have been made available by the European Association for Jewish Studies to contribute towards travel and accommodation expenses.

Colleagues who wish to apply for support to attend the panel are kindly invited to apply no later than 25 May 2016, by sending a short CV (not more than 2 pages), specifying his/her affiliation and area of expertise to:southeasternetwork@gmail.com.
