Further support for Academic Events in Jewish Studies:

EAJS Conference Grant Programme in European Jewish Studies for 2015/16

The European Association for Jewish Studies is pleased to announce a further programme to support academic events in Jewish Studies in Europe. Facilitated through a major grant, the EAJS will be able to offer financial support for EAJS Conferences and EAJS Summer Schools. Depending on the duration and number of participants, between £ 1,000 and £ 10,000 may be requested.

As was the case in the recently closed call for submissions for EAJS Roundtables and EAJS Laboratories, it is also the purpose of this new programme to foster cooperation among scholars involved in Jewish Studies across Europe and to support early career researchers in this field to develop a professional network. In contrast to this earlier programme, EAJS Full Membership is only required of one applicant for a submission.

EAJS Conferences will allow for submissions reflecting the whole range of topics relevant for Jewish Studies. The format can range from discussion-focused one-day workshops to wide-ranging, synoptic conferences. Proposals for EAJS Summer schools should include a description of the theme, the faculty involved, the duration and location and the targeted groups of students and/or early career researchers.

Proposals in the framework of the EAJS Conference Grant Programme in European Jewish Studies may range. Academic excellence and the impact on network building in Jewish Studies across Europe will be key criteria; international cooperation in the development of proposals is strongly encouraged. Proposals need to be submitted by at least one Full Member of EAJS. EAJS membership for speakers and participants is not required. A Call for Proposals will be issued shortly for events to take place in the academic year 2015/16.

In case of enquiries, please send an e-mail to admin@eurojewishstudies.org.

AJS and EAJS: Programme of Cooperation in Jewish Studies

The Association for Jewish Studies and European Association for Jewish Studies are pleased to announce a new partnership. In the interest of promoting collaboration among scholars based at North American and European universities, the AJS will be offering special membership rates for EAJS members: $55 for Full EAJS Members and $35 for Student EAJS Members. These special rates give EAJS members the full roster of AJS benefits, including digital subscriptions to all AJS publications AJS Review, AJS Perspectives, and AJS News. In addition, AJS and EAJS plan to organize joint academic events, including co-sponsored sessions at each others’ conferences, and share online resources. We hope this new venture will broaden audiences for scholars of Jewish Studies and lead to collaborative research projects.

EAJS members interested in taking out an AJS membership should email AJS Program and Membership Coordinator, Shira Moskovitz, at smoskovitz@ajs.cjh.org.  A reminder that those who wish to submit a proposal for the AJS Annual Conference, December 13 – 15, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts, must become members for the September 1, 2015 – August 31, 2016 membership year. The deadline for proposal submission is May 6, 2015. Please contact the AJS office at ajs@ajs.cjh.org or +1.917.606.8249 with any questions.

EAJS members should be aware that this co-operative membership of the AJS is only available to those whose annual membership subscriptions are fully paid to date.

The EAJS is currently preparing a similar access to EAJS membership for AJS members, and an announcement in this regard will be made shortly.
