Happy 2017!

We’ve had a heart-warming start to the beginning of our year. One of our first priorities was to select the five winners of our Summer Survey Competition, that took place in December.  To do this, we ran the almost 1,000 valid entries through a randomising computer program. Shelley Bolle, our marketing and stakeholder relationship manager, was tasked with great job of bringing the good news to the winners. There were whoops of excitement, tears of joy and a skeptical disbeliever too!

Each winner received a R1,000 cash prize and a goodie bag of FunDza treats (books, a FunDza t-shirt and some sweeties!). Even though this amount is not huge, we heard how it would make a significant difference to their lives. For instance, Percy was now able to buy school uniforms for his sons; Eunice - who’d been inspired to register again for her matric - could put it towards her school fees; and, Michael - a job hunter - said he’d would now be able to buy something smart for his job interviews. Read all about it here.

We’re busy analysing the results collected through the survey, which we’ll share properly once complete, but here's just one comment from a FunDza reader that makes our hearts sing: "As an aspiring writer it [accessing FunDza stories] greatly impacts me. It is develops my reading and writing skills. I also really just enjoy reading stories written by Africans. More should be done to get these stories out because they are honestly unique and special. I love what you guys are doing. It's so inspirational! Keep the good work up please!”

We plan to do just that! And, one way of ensuring we can keep the good stories coming is by understanding what’s most popular on FunDza. We've drawn up a list of the top five most read stories/books/articles over the last year. Check out the results here. And, keep up with our news through the blog reports below, or find us on Facebook and Twitter.

With love from all of us
