Goodbye 2016!

What a roller-coaster ride of busyness it has been! We're reflecting on what we've achieved since the start of our financial year and are pleased to see that, while the rest of the world may be a little off-kilter, we are set to meet our annual targets.

We've delivered almost 26,000 books and 75,000 pocket booklets that reached 280+ reading groups nationwide. Almost half a million people have read on our mobi network, generating 25,000+ comments. We've commissioned and published 58 short stories, 37 books, 41 children's stories, 160+ blogs or feature articles online. And, we've received, edited and given feedback on the creative writing 900+ individual Fanz writers, publishing approximately 90 stories, 400 essays and 900 poems. We've also hosted 30 writing workshops benefitting 850+ learners, while our online reading courses have collectively reached around 1500 people. And, there has been even more... the reading for pleasure campaign with False Bay College, the training of the Year Beyond volunteers, the conferences and competitions, and the mentorship of 10 young aspirant writers. Gosh, it's time for a break!

We haven't done this alone. A big thank you goes to the foundations, companies, organisations and individuals that have supported us financially, partnered with us or helped us to grow and reach even more young South Africans. We so appreciate it, and know that the groups and individual readers and writers who benefit appreciate it too.

The office officially closes from 23 December to 3 January but many staff members will be on leave between 17 December and 9 January. We send you wishes for a very happy holiday season. We hope you find a good book (or two or three) and enjoy much uninterrupted time to read it. Roll on 2017!

With love from all of us
