FunDza's launches the "Words that Matter to Me" poetry competition for 'Literacy Month'!

September is Literacy Month!

It's the 50th anniversary of International Literacy Day on 8 September. The theme for this year is 'Reading the past, Writing the Future'. We love that the theme incorporates both reading and writing as we believe that the ability to write well and communicate effectively is a vital building block for lifelong learning and it is something we aim to encourage through our work.

There are lots of literacy-focused events planned, so the whole of September is Literacy Month for FunDza. With National Book Week, FunDza staff will be travelling to different parts of the country to run reading and writing workshops. We've got an event at Open Book Festival on Friday 9 September to celebrate our young and up-and-coming writers. And, we're hosting an exciting poetry competition on fundza.mobi: Words that Matter to Me! Click here to find out more about the competition and view our full calendar of events here.

Getting young people excited about reading and writing is our core vision. Help to spread the word of what we are doing by following us on Facebook and Twitter and sharing our news. Remember every day is a good day to share the love of reading!
