SUMMER TIME and the days are longer! More time for belly dancing!!

We are truly fortunate to have an abundance of belly dance activities going on in the Bay Area. On behalf of the SF/BA Chapter Board of Officers, I want to assure you that we have been working very hard to provide you with a variety of events. During this past quarter we co-hosted a Dancers' Night and a Swap and Shop, and we hosted a Dancers' Night at a brand new venue! With your support and generosity, we're well on our way to making a sizeable donation at year-end to our designated charity, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence.  (Highlights from these three events are included in this newsletter.)  This Board of Officers also makes an effort to attend, participate and/or volunteer at events presented by other Bay Area belly dance organizations. We also invite you to participate and consider volunteering.  It's a great way to become familiar with the belly dance community and make life-long friends. If you would like to attend our Board meeting, please contact us, but keep in mind that only the board members present can vote.

We're looking forward to the latter half of this year. We'll soon be releasing important details about our Annual Fall Festival and Fundraiser. In the meantime, please continue to visit our website and our Facebook Group page. Be sure you're on our mailing list so that you receive upcoming newsletters and special event alerts.
Happy Summer and Happy Dancing!

Safiyah, President

Recapping our most recent past events ...

Sunday, April 7, 2013 - El Morocco Dancers' Night featured SF/BA MECDA and guest dancers, ANTAR, LINDA, ASIYA, RAJA, SAFIYAH, JIANG-TI, YOLANDA, ZELINA and JASMINE, El Morocco House Dancer, who all performed beautifully in an enchanting setting to the fantastic live music of Al 'Azifoon. We also enjoyed delicious, authentic Moroccan cuisine. Our thanks to YOSIFAH ROSE for making this such a special night. Our thanks also to YOSIFAH, YOLANDA and PALOMA of Lunatic Fringe who donated fabulous items for the fundraising Opportunity Drawing. Everybody was so generous! And thank you to JAHMRA who volunteered throughout the evening. We will definitely return to El Morocco in 2014! Below are some of our dancers captured by the camera.

Sunday, April 28, 2013 - SF/BA MECDA hosted its first Backyard Swap, Shop and Socialize at Ma*Shuqa and Carl's Studio in Los Gatos. It was obvious that the sellers had cleaned out their closets as they unloaded all their gently used items that they were now ready to part with and replace. The sellers were actually buying from each other even before set up was complete! Sellers and shoppers alike enjoyed a very casual afternoon in a beautiful garden setting, basking in the sun and munching on a tasty assortment of snacks. Ma*Shuqa presented free mini workshops in the newly remodeled studio. The informative workshops were well attended. Sellers took turns watching their tables so that they could attend too. Our thanks to Ma*Shuqa and Carl for the warm and friendly hospitality extended to all who attended and their ongoing support of MECDA events. Our thanks also to all who made a donation that day to support MECDA's future events and our chosen charity, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence. Below are some of our happy sellers and shoppers captured on film by Carl Sermon.

Somebody else is sniffing out bargains too!

Sunday, May 19, 2013 - In Los Altos "For the First Time Ever" SF/BA MECDA hosted a Dancers' Night at the Village Kebab Restaurant. The weather cooperated making for a perfect intimate outdoor setting.  It was truly an exciting evening of Raks Sharqi! Performing, each with their own unique style, for the standing room only audience, were PALOMA, NADIA, ASIYA, TATIANA, ALISA, IVY, RAJA, RAWIYAH, PARRI, AMANDA, YOLANDA and ADRIANA. As the sun set the dancers performances were even more mesmerizing! Afterwards, social dancing continued until it was literally time to roll up the carpet! Our thanks to the Village Kebab management and staff, and to D.J. Sp3shial Option and his lovely assistant, Alycia. Once again our fundraising Opportunity Drawing was met with much enthusiasm and generosity! A big thank you to HAZAR who took it one step further - Dancing for Dollars!! We acknowledge those who donated items: LEYLA LANTY, PALOMA, RAWIYAH, SAFIYAH and NADIA. We look forward to returning to the Village Kebab in the near future. Below are more photos of our lovely dancers.
