He plays the cello and thus is looking for two violinists and a violist. The intention is that this quartet would be for amateur-level musicians! Hopefully, it might begin meeting late in the summer or early in the fall to plan repertoire. If you are interested, please contact Bob at firstname.lastname@example.org.Thank you.
Making a Difference
Summer is here and Outreach is shaking up our special offerings program! We've re-imagined how we support the many vital organizations that support those in need in our community both locally and world wide. Starting in July we will be shifting our process and pledging up-front support from the Outreach budget funds. We invite you to support those agencies and causes that speak to your passions by adding funds to Outreach's contributions through your offerings.
When making a contribution please mark your donations to the special offering using the front of the pew envelope or the memo line on your check. Interested in learning more about Outreach's mission and the Church's support of missions in our community and around the world? Speak to one of our committee members.
It's Christmas in July! As an active UCC congregation we are committed to being a 5 for 5 church by supporting all 5 UCC special ministries. This month we will be contributing $400 of the Outreach budget to the UCC Christmas Fund. The Christmas Fund for the Veterans of the Cross and the Emergency Fund is a Special Mission Offering that congregations have been supporting for over 100 years. The offering is administered through the United Church Board for Ministerial Assistance, the charitable arm of the Pension Boards.
Funds provide direct financial support to those who serve the church and are facing financial difficulties. Active and retired clergy, lay employees, and their surviving spouses may be eligible for the Supplementation of Small Annuities, Supplementation of Health Premiums, Emergency Grants, and/or Christmas “Thank You” Gift Checks If you would like to support this mission and increase the church's donation please mark your donations to the special offering using the front of the pew envelope or the memo line on your check.
Don’t Let Your Veggies Grow Up to be Compost!
Have extra produce from your garden or CSA share? Donate it!This summer gardeners and CSA members will have a convenient way to donate their extra vegetables, fruit and eggs by dropping them off at one of 10 convenient Neighborhood Food Hubs located throughout Tompkins County. New this season, several hubs will be “Give and Take” locations where people are encouraged to share their surplus and take what they can use.
Friendship Donations Network’s Neighborhood Food Hubs make donating garden produce easy. Simply drop off your extra vegetables, fruit or eggs at one of the Neighborhood Food Hubs, and they will be distributed to area food programs the next day. In the first five years of the program, local gardeners and CSA members donated more than 21,000 pounds of produce!
About Friendship Donations Network:
Friendship Donations Network is a food rescue organization located in Ithaca, NY., with the mission to rescue fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away from stores and farms and redistribute it to neighbors in need throughout Tompkins County and beyond. Friendship Donations Network provides food donations to community programs, including meal programs, food pantries, low-income housing communities, and grassroots distribution. Each week 2,000 people are served, and nearly 1,400 pounds of good food is diverted each day from the landfill. See Friendship Donation Network website for more information see friendshipdonations.org/hubs.
Hub Helpers Needed
The sun is shining, the rain is falling, sometimes at the same time and that means gardens are exploding with abundant gifts of fresh produce. Sometimes too abundant. Don't let your veggies grow up to be compost, bring your out of control zucchini to the food hub. Starting July 21st the cooler will be out for your veggies or extra eggs. This means we need HUB HELPERS! Please help us with set up or tear down by signing up on the table in the Narthex. This takes about 10 minutes either before church or after, it's a great job to do as a family, activities are appropriate for those as young as 3! Questions find a member of Outreach.
The Sanctuary Team /Action FCC
The Sanctuary Team and Action FCC invites you to volunteer at the Guatemalan Mobile Consulate which will take place at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Friday, August 16th. The Guatemalan consulate brings it's staff from NYC upstate twice yearly to provide services to Guatemalan nationals who need to renew passports and national ID cards or register American-born children for dual citizenship. They are in Ithaca for only one day, and typically serve between 350-400 people. Volunteers who can provide food or childcare and games are needed. The event runs from 6:30am to 7:00pm. If you would like to volunteer at the St. Catherine's, please contact the CU Farmworker Program to register for the short volunteer training session. Contactfarmworkers@cornell.edu email@example.com. If you would like to provide food, but not staff the event, please contact Kristen Brennan firstname.lastname@example.org. Kristen can also provide volunteer applications.
The Sanctuary Team and Action FCCwill be collecting sweatshirts for distribution to migrant workers who pick corn in August and September. The jackets and sweatshirts we distributed last year were very much appreciate! If you would like to donate any as you do your summer cleaning, please place them in the market bins located near the staircase by the pantry collection bins.
Join the Lights for Liberty Protest The almost daily revelations about the mistreatment of immigrants in our country invites moral outrage and witness. If you are interested in showing solidarity with those being mistreated in immigrant concentration camps along the U.S.-Mexico border and elsewhere, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps is a nationwide protest which will bring thousands of Americans to detention camps across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. A sister vigil will be held on the Commons on July 12 at 7 p.m. The website for the national event is https://www.lightsforliberty.org/and the local Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/events/309786843258319/
Council Minutes- Council minutes for April and May (draft) are available at the table near the narthex area. If you would like a copy please feel free to pick one up.
