EBAN 2015 Angel Summit - Re-live it now!
This past 06-08 May more than 250 angel investors, policy makers, accelerators, incubators, crowd funders, stock exchanges, venture capitalists, etc. came from all over the world to the High-Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, for three days of helping create, finance and build Global Success Stories.
We would like to thank all those who came and for those who were unable to come,
you can discover the presentations, pictures and videos of the entire three days here.
There were so many highlights, it is impossible to mention them all here.
Was it the fact that we had 7 Stock Exchanges from Turkey, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, Euronext, the LSE, and the USA all represented in an incredible panel of how Angel Investors can work together with Stock Exchanges to inspire private investors throughout the world to invest in the next generation.
Was it the concerted effort between Angel Investors and Crowd funding Platforms to fund innovation, or the rising presence of Corporate Venture Capitalists in Europe - something I always call the Missing Link.
We were thrilled to welcome our new sister organizations, MBAN and ABAN as our American partners from ACA, New York Angels, Professional Crowdfunding Association, Global Accelerator Network and Global Business Angel Network.
During EBAN 2015 we signed three major initiatives with our American Colleagues. The first was with the Global Accelerator Network, where EBAN, MBAN and ABAN will be collaborating on accelerating and investments. The second was with Start-Up Angels where we will be cooperating with them on their first European Angel Start-Up Summit in Madrid 22 - 23 June. The third cooperation is with Rising Tide Fund of the USA - a Fund of 99 Women Investors, an initiative started by the Kauffmann Foundation. EBAN is partnering with them to now create Rising Tide Europe Fund and we are most excited about this.
EBAN 2015 was all about extending horizons and we were honoured to welcome the President of the European Research Council, Jean-Pierre Bourgignon who shared with us where we should be investing in the years to come, as well as Frank Salzgeber from the European Space Agency, who not only brought us to the next horizon but to the next universe. Both institutions brought great entrepreneurs to train and pitch together with our first ever e-Xcelerator Demo Day and Horizon 2020 projects day.
But, EBAN 2015 was also about great panels of speakers - be it that on Co-Investment, Impact Investing, Tax Incentives, or about Horizon 2020 itself and regional initiatives like the Estonian e-Residency.
And of course, we were all blown away by the young (and young at heart) entrepreneurs who kept us on their toes throughout the three days with challenges, questions, and elevator pitches.
Our Gala Awards celebrated not only those entrepreneurs but also the angel investors behind them who work tirelessly to improve the venture and entrepreneurial finance eco-system the world over.
We had the best partners in the world for venture and entrepreneurial finance, be it GUST, Ramosthos, High -Tech Campus, European Space Agency, European Research Council plus the European Commission and Horizon 2020.
At the end of the day, though EBAN 2015 was about people. People networking, people getting to know each other, people exchanging best practices, people sharing war stories on investments, private sector people speaking with public sector people, young entrepreneurs speaking with serial angel investors, vc's crowd funders, scientific people speaking with business people, people laughing, people investing. It was great and we would truly like to thank all who came and who participated so magnificently. Please enjoy the virtual EBAN 2015 here
With kindest regards and already looking forward to EBAN 2015 Winter Universitiy with the Creative Business Cup 16 - 18 November in Copenhagen,
EBAN present at the Launch of the Estonian e-Residency Program
e-Residency offers to every world citizen a government-issued digital identity and the opportunity to run a trusted company online, unleashing the world’s entrepreneurial potential.
This May 14th at the Latitude59 conference in Tallinn, Estonia officially launched its e-Residency application portal enabling anyone in the world to participate in the public beta of the revolutionary digital identity program. EBAN, represented by its President Candace Johnson and Board Member and EstBAN President Ivar Siimar, were present at the launch of this ground breaking innovation.
The Republic of Estonia is the first country to offer e-Residency, a transnational digital identity available to anyone interested in establishing and administering a location-independent business online. Estonian e-Residents can register a company online, perform e-banking transactions, access international payment service providers, declare taxes online, manage a company remotely, and digitally sign documents and contracts.
“We created e-Residency to grow the digital economy, attract new investment, and connect with new businesses. e-Residency provides enormous advantages in convenience and flexibility for anyone who has an existing business or other connection to Estonia. But it also provides anyone, not just those connected to Estonia, with the tools and systems to own and operate their own business. In creating this program, Estonia hopes to unleash the world-s entrepreneurial potential,” said Kaspar Korjus, e-Residency program director.
EBAN is working closely with EstBAN to replicate the e-Residency model at a European level by creating the “E-Zone”, a single market for entrepreneurs, innovators and investors that can overcome the fragmentation of legal and fiscal regimes of the various EU member states.
For more information on the program and on how to register for e-Residency, visit the Estonian Ministry of Economic affairs website here.

U.S. - EU Dialogue on Making Ventures Grow
On May 5, 2015, the U.S. Mission to the European Union and the European Business Angels Network (EBAN) co-hosted a round table dialogue with 45 high-level policy makers, academicians, business Angels, VCs, accelerators, and representatives from stock exchanges and non-profit organisations from the both the US and the EU.
The focus of the discussions was to identify what key players on both sides of the Atlantic can do to support the EU’s efforts to unleash and attract venture capital and other forms of entrepreneurial finance to help ventures grow in Europe. Access to capital is critical for startups and young innovative firms, particularly in the context of the European Commission’s efforts to promote private sector investment in Europe through President Juncker’s Investment Plan and efforts to deepen capital markets in Europe through the proposed Capital Markets Union (CMU).
In the course of the dialogue, participants in the high-level group proposed the following action points to the European Commission. [Read the full article]
