EBAN Helsinki 2014 Winter University and Slush Celebrate and Pave the Way to European Success Stories
Over 400 active business angels working towards creating European Success Stories, will join together in Helsinki with EBAN and its local host FiBAN to converge in a world-class conference experience with two intense days, combined with the amazing SLUSH, the world's pre-eminent meeting point for innovation and entrepreneurship. Members from EBAN and our newly incubated MBAN and ABAN will join a total of 350 delegates and 50 speakers from around the world on November 17th and 18th for the EBAN Helsinki Winter University/SLUSH joint event.
Amongst the speakers and panelists you will find David Rose, serial entrepreneur and super angel investor who will interview Peter Jungen, EBAN's President Emeritus and founder Business Angels Network Deutschland, now Angel Investor in New York, Asia, and the Middle East, Peter Vesterbacka, the guru behind the Angry Birds games and seasoned angel investor, Jari Ovaskainen, private investor with Supercell background ($1.5bn exit) and Jaakko Salminen, CEO of the Finnish Software Entrepreneurs Association and esteemed business angel. Jenny Tooth, the CEO of UK's Business Angels Association will also join us to give her insights on Angel Investing as well asOliver Gajda, the President of the European Crowd Funding Network, giving us the latest update on this exciting funding possibility for both entrepreneurs and angels alike.
The Conference spotlights on entrepreneurial success with the intervention of Anne Berner, owner of Valilla Interior, and Paula Fitzsimons, founder of Going for Growth, an initiative on women entrepreneurship funded by the European Social Fund.

EBAN Represents the Voice of Early-Stage Investors at the SME Assembly | Naples
From the 1st to the 3rd of October, Ari Korhonen, EBAN's Vice-President, and Pablo Garrido, Head of Office, attended and actively participated in the event.
Ari was a keynote speaker during the session "Meeting SME Finance Needs", presenting the different funding options available for startups and SMEs, combined with an European overview of the early-stage investment market and the economic impact of angel investment. The role of the BA's was also outlined as a powerful enabler of job creation.
Complementarily, Ari was invited as a jury member during "The Pitch", a session in which entrepreneurs pitched for investment in their companies. Highlights and conclusions of the SME Assembly 2014 available here
Ari Korhonen and Baybars Altuntas Praise Success at Skolkovo Business Angels [SCBA]
EBAN Vice-Presidents Ari Korhonen and Baybars Altuntas represented EBAN at the event of the Skolkovo Business Angels Club in Moscow, Russia. Created in 2010,Skolkovo Foundation is the principal agency responsible for the Russian Skolkovo Innovation Centre, a scientific and technological centre for the development and commercialisation< of advanced technologies. Skolkovo Foundation is supporting the development of the Skolkovo Business Angels Club who we are welcoming this month as an EBAN Gold Network Member.
Baybars gave a clear picture of the European angel market and recent trends during his presentation “Best Practices in the European Angel Investment Ecosystem”, followed by Ari's informative and encouraging speech under the topic "How to Create High Value Exits".
EBAN would also like to congratulate Panorics, the winning startup of this event, awarded with $50,000 in financing.
1st African Angel Investors Summit in Lagos, Nigeria
VC4Africa and DEMO Africa gathered over 300 start-ups during the 1st African Angel Investors Summit in Lagos, Nigeria. Hosted on the 25th and 26th of September, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity were the elements celebrated. Baybars Altuntas, EBAN Vice-President, attended the event as panel speaker in the session “Investing in Startups in Africa” and also gave a presentation with VC4Africa and our new African colleagues from ABAN on the importance of Angel Investing.
Baybars exposed the fact that Africa needs more local angel investors, as long as these people are covering 75% of startups financial needs. In addition, Baybars mentioned that investors’ approach to startups does not change from continent to continent.
Finally, a last takeaway from EBAN Vice-President is that angel investors invest in entrepreneurs first, then the business idea. If both happen at the same time, that is a plus for the angel investor.
